The movie was good. It wasn't the same as Wes Craven's film. But Aja really did a good job. The acting was decent which is why I rated this a 6. There was some parts I personally thought was fake especially Brenda's rape scene and one crying scene. As for Bobby, he really was great. I believed that all his parts were well acted. and believable. Especially at the scene seeing his father getting burned alive. **** kill those **** Nice!! The make-up was outstanding especially for Lizard and Ruby. But the only thing that was disappointing to me was that in the 1977 version, Ruby was a normal human being. Then the re-make showed her as all deformed which I thought was stupid. Other than that, Lizard was badass!! But damn, that make-up was just done well. I mean, it was done very well!!… Full Review »
Consensus: Hostel: Part II is excessively gory, stupid and pointless, torture porn as its best. 40/100 [D+]
Three female college students take a detour from their partying, enticed by a beautiful European woman who promises seclusion, safety and maybe even romance. What they get is a living hell where they are sold to the highest bidder who's fondest wish is to kill them slowly. Hostel 2 also follows 2 American men who, on the flip side of the coin, are willing to pay to join an exclusive club where a life will end at their hands...any way they like. It's a story of human monsters and the almighty dollar as only Eli Roth could tell it.
I actually did enjoy this horror film, but c'mon, it doesn't make any sense and the last act is utterly confusing. Hostel: Part II tries to be too many things at once and it's slow, very slow. Some characters are unbelievable and annoying, are they even humans?, The gory parts are enjoyable, exaggerated and crazy, the characters are so damn stupid, the camera work is Ok but the direction is pretentious and Careless. Eli Roth doesn't care about his characters at all, he just want them to die, he goes straight to the point, the ending is also stupid, though i enjoyed a few scenes in this movie, i can't recommend it, just watch the first installment, this second one is just bad. If you didn't like Rise of the Planet of the Apes or any of the other Planet of the Apes movies, then you shouldn't see this movie, it won't change your mind about the series. That being said this movie is fantastic. It has an amazing story, intense action, and genuinely sad moments. My only problem with this movie was the drama scenes between the humans. These scenes weren't very long but they seemed out of place and made the movie about 10 minutes longer than it should have been.… Full Review »
Consensus: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is as good as it should be, it's exciting, thrilling and well acted. 83/100 [B+]
The film begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. I watched this film on my computer, because i'm not a huge fan of these books and this franchise.
The plot still interesting and the acting still excellent here. I mean, it is a film made it to please the fans of the book, was also made to raise tons of money and also was made to continue with another sequel, to please more fans and make more money, haha. I'm not complaining, that's what this franchise is, it's a franchise with quality, exciting moments and lots of fun for a young audience. Jennifer Lawrence is the star of the film, she gives her 100%, the other performers are good too but Lawrence is definitely the only character that we care about. Sam Claflin and Josh Hutcherson are just a plus.
Throughout the film there are lots of enjoyable violence and memorable action sequences, Catching Fire is a very effective sequel, this director knows how to make this more exhausting, thrilling and atmospheric. These unlucky characters have to deal with angry monkeys, dangerous fumes, etc. The screenplay is terrific, though at times is predictable, the chemistry between these characters is truly believable. Overall Catching Fire is exciting, violent, full of social commentary and more themes from its source material that will please fans of the book, fans of the franchise and casual viewers, i will watch the next film of this franchise of course.
