Mae Whitman has a great performance in this film which is unexpected for her first major leading role. We end up cheering for her throughout the film like an underdog sports team. She's not necessarily that funny all the time but she does draw you in. Robbie Amell was also really good which we doesn't always expect from the good looking love interest guy. This film conquers some teen issues that are apparent in high schools today and I'm sure a lot of young adults will be able to make connections to this movie and that will be what makes it special.… Full Review »

After a pretty underwhelming third installment, this Spanish horror series largely bounces back with the surprisingly good final entry, REC 4.After a pretty underwhelming third installment, this Spanish horror series largely bounces back with the surprisingly good final entry, REC 4. I was a little skeptical since REC 3 was mediocre, but this was definitely an unexpectedly enjoyable movie. Largely ignoring the events of REC 3 and picking up right where REC 2 left off, REC 4 once again follows doomed television reporter Angela Vidal who was rescued from the infected apartment complex and is now on a ship in the middle of an ocean, but she may still be possessing the parasite that started the initial outbreak. REC 4 won't win any points for being scary or terribly original, as this is more of an action thriller than horror, but it is mostly successful due to the fact that it drops the slapstick comedy of REC 3 and goes for a more serious tone, and the setting make this stand out in the zombie genre. The tight hallways and tiny rooms throughout the ship do emulate the claustrophobic feeling of the first two movies, which amplifies the tension and thrill of many scenes in the film. The characters in the movie also make REC 4 so much better than it could have been. Each character has their own personality and seem real, mostly because of the outstanding acting. If you're a fan of the REC series, I highly recommend REC 4 because it's a great ending to an iconic horror franchise.… Full Review »
This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. What a disappointing re-boot of a classic, low budget original. In fact, it disrespects the original. In the original Mad Max, the lead character was actually mad, angry. In this re-boot he isn't even the lead. Furiosa is , and she is the Alpha. Mad max is along for a ride in this uber feminist take on this idea of a post apocalyptic, gas obsessed world. But wait, you say, the idea behind this film is that strong women can stand up to tyranny and create a better world, one that doesn't even contain men. Ok, so why is the Utopian green place dry up, most of the women dead, and their solution is to turned back to take over Joes' empire? Isn't this ending a slap in the face of feminism, as portrayed in this film? Women couldn't do it on their own so they took what a man created, but they are going to make it a better, gentler place? Don't get me started on the symbolism of the hot wives, in the desert, spraying themselves with the second most important liquid in this fantasy world, water , spilling it all over, drinking it , spitting it out. A symbolism for male seed and the value, or lack their of, that the modern feminist movement places on men? You decide. There are lots of little anti-male nuggets in this film.
Come on! First, feminism, by its very definition is equal pay for equal work. period. It's NOT about male roles vs female roles ( or stereotypes ). Second, who says women are kinder and gentler in an post apocalyptic world? Lots of examples of women that get drunk on money and power in today's society, why are they held in a better light in Mad Max vs the men? This is all misguided feminism. I guess, since women are better at their core then men, they really don't fart or pop either. Stupid drivel.… Full Review »
