This is an updated version and it was well done. Yes it was updated... meaning to modern day, instead of the great depression. So the music, the values, the toys, the attitudes should all change. If you are looking for the original, watch the original (which was also amazing). But this one has a beautiful new touch for a new generation of families. As a professional musician, I appreciate the arrangements of the the classic songs. They were not overdone, but the sounds and transitions were updated to sound modern. The new Annie is even cuter than the first and Jamie does an outstanding job playing cold and jaded businessman. The storyline is excellent by itself and would deserve at least a 3 stars without anything else but I do believe it was not only done well but took you on an emotional journey. I cannot believe that people are giving this movie low ratings. And to say that Wallis wasn't good?... or sickeningly cute... that sounds crazy or simply like a "hater". I hate saying this, but it makes me ask the question, is it just because this is a black Annie? Truly, to not like this movie I question how much of a heart one could have. I would say its un-american to not like a movie that so portrays the pursuit of happiness that resounds through our American spirit. Full Review »

The third and final installment in the Hobbit trilogy is disappointing for LOTR fans who have seen all the movies and read all the books. It's obvious proof that the Hobbit movies were dragged out way too much. I could understand two movies, but having a third movie was clearly to make more money and ended up ruining the experience. As much as I loved the book, this movie fails to maintain anything close in quality to the book. The acting is fine, but the movie itself is just a failure to the book. The fight scenes are far too long and are way too convenient. The important characters can literally fight off hundreds of orcs in hand to hand combat until the plot demands otherwise. The story is too slow and the fighting is too extensive. As much as I hate to say it, this hobbit movie is disappointing. Read the book or if you're a die hard fan watch it, but don't expect much. Lots of great performances and high octane action sequences and it even introduces us to "The Falcon". Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have great on screen chemistry and the direction of Joe and Anthony Russo is dead on. It a lot of fun and a super companion to "The Avengers". Full Review »

If you can accept that, I'd strongly suggest seeing this movie. The film opens up with a catchy, bright performance of "Into the Woods."

However, the film, just like the musical, begins to fail with the second act. Characters clash with their personalities, betray their beliefs, and die. The second act moves slow and feels like a whole different film. Just like the musical, it ended with me wanting more resolution.

The final song is incredible, with me near tears. I loved Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep's performances... and the song "Agony" is a great laugh.

If you consider yourself a musical fan, or a music geek in general, I'd definitely recommend this film. If you aren't, I can recommend this film, but be weary as it may not suit your tastes.
