Simple and fun, if not exactly memorable.

What's good here is the acting, and some of the story lines (the model who thinks she's not perfect enough, for example). But they are overshadowed by over-the-top gory surgeries and preposterous situations...It's like "Miami Vice" - with a huge number of close-ups and a lot of ceiling fan action - but it's a lot bloodier. But hey - next time I want to see a butt reduction or an exploding, fat-spewing lipo-scution tube, I know just where to turn.

All the new characters are wonderfully drawn, including FBI agent Walker (Annie Wersching); bad, bad guy Jonas Hodges (Jon Voight); a new Chloe-type nerd (Janeane Garofalo). Especially good are Jones and her husband (Colm Feore), who is more consumed with solving his son's death than in being First Man. Whew! Thank God there is Jack Bauer--unchanging, unflinching.

There are things to love about it - two of them to be precise: Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven.

A hilarious new sitcom about a female vice president of the United States, Selina Meyer, played with insanely good timing by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

HBO's new series from death-obsessed Alan Ball, creator of the legendary "Six Feet Under," whose new show True Blood, won't so much make your blood run cold as it will leave you cold.

Despite being loving and sweet, the documentary feels four decades too late and a million dollars short if Cher was really serious about why she made this movie--to help Holt achieve her life-long dream of a singing career.

There's enough intrigue, suspense and interesting characters here to make Ripper Street a worthwhile viewing endeavor.

Some half-hour segments work spectacularly well and some don't. Like real life, I guess. But even the ones that don't work so well are very interesting.

Something part good and part incredibly, unforgivably smarmy.

While "Studio 60" is/was an annoying, insidery and smug series about the inside doings of the annoyingly smug cast of a "Saturday Night Live-ish" show, "Donnellys" is the annoying, insidery and smug series about the doings of the Donnelly brothers, low-level thugs in Hell's Kitchen in New York City.

Maybe it's not as great as "Lost," but then again, it could be awfully close.

The only chink in the series' armour is the miscasting of Polly Walker as the evil Atia. She overacts so much, that it'll make you ache for Sian Phillips' long-ago portrayal as Livia in "I Claudius." While Rome's not as great as that old series, it's still deserves a helluva Hail Caesar!

While everything on the original "CSI" works - the concept, the actors, the script, the direction, the characters - nothing (did I mention nothing?) works on "CSI: Miami." [23 Sep 2002]

The show is a lot of fun. Like playing dress-up when you were a kid--and about as realistic.

So what is there to like about this show? The same thing there was to like about "The Sopranos" and "The Shield" - great writing, insanely good acting, deeply troubled and deeply layered characters and a plot that will keep you glued to your seat.

The series which starts out badly (idiotic masturbation jokes), builds quickly. And the co-stars are flat out terrific together.

With a snarky running dialogue from Tessa (Jane Levy), the laughs are as easy and as sophisticated as she is. Or as she thinks she is--and that's the key.
