Everything breaks for Bad
The Television Critics Association, a group comprised of more than 220 professional TV critics and journalists who cover the industry, took time out of the summer press tour to hand out their 29th Annual TCA Awards on Saturday night, in a private ceremony hosted by comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
With critical praise for the soon-to-end Breaking Bad reaching a fever pitch in recent weeks, you likely won't find it surprising to learn that the year's top honors went to that program. Breaking Bad essentially switched places with HBO's Game of Thrones, with the latter—last year's program of the year recipient—winning for best drama instead (the category which went to Bad in 2012). This year's other repeat winner was Louis C.K., who won again in the best comedy performance category (though Louie itself failed to repeat in the comedy series category).
Also of interest: critics honored Orphan Black's breakout star Tatiana Maslany for the best performance in a drama this year. The award comes a few weeks after Maslany was snubbed at this year's Emmy nominations. Of course, the TCA's awards and the Emmys rarely find common ground.
