Adventure, $4.99, from Playground Publishing

It's like shooting fish in a barrel, except for the "in a barrel" part. This fishing game—in which rod and reel are just step one in catching fish—benefits from a sense of humor and a great design, and this week Apple named Ridiculous Fishing the iPhone Game of the Year.

15. Year Walk 87
Adventure, $3.99, from Simogo

"Year Walk is a small but perfectly formed piece of digital entertainment that shows there's much more to iOS than endless runners and free-to-play timewasters. A game this distinctive, this different, this thrillingly new is the best possible demonstration of the format's versatility; indeed, of the narrative power of the interactive medium."

Telegraph More reviews...

This short, supernatural-themed adventure title features absolutely beautiful illustrations and is certainly one of the most distinctive games released for the iOS platform this year. Its puzzles can be challenging, though, and it's not a game for the impatient. A separate (free) companion app explains the Swedish folklore behind the game.

    Floris was dope.

  • mrnice

At least three of these are available for Android: Gemini Rue, Tiny Thief, Anomaly 2.... Unless CBS takes money from Apple for ignoring Android, it seems fitting to include Android games as well.

  • Laceddecal

@MrNice But then as many as 22 of the games are not for android...

Why would an article about the 25 best reviewed games for iOS mention anything about android ports of a few of the games listed on it? Additionally, if a game is released for multiple platforms, each platforms version has a separate page and receives separate reviews. These different versions might not be released in the same year. In fact, ports regularly receive dramatically different scores from each other! Compare Skulls of the Shogun for Xbox live arcade vs iOS for a great example of this.

The list was made by ranking the average score of ios games with minimum 5 reviews released in 2013. I'm not exactly sure why you would think some sort of under the table financial incentive must be present for information regarding the existence or nonexistence of android versions of three of the games to have not been included. ...Why would it even be relevant?
