Star Trek: Discovery NEW Trailer Sci-fi/Drama CBS 8:30p
The first new Star Trek series since Enterprise launched in 2001 gets a late start following a longer-than-planned production process that saw series co-creator Bryan Fuller depart as showrunner. The other co-creator, Alex Kurtzman (who was a writer on both J.J. Abrams-directed Trek films), remains on board as a producer, along with The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer, while Trek newcomers Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts are running the show. Discovery is set about a decade before events in the original series (and will share at least one character—Spock's father Sarek, here played by James Frain), though the main focus will be the ship's first officer (The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green) rather than its captain (Jason Isaacs). The cast also includes Maulik Pancholy, Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Rekha Sharma, Rainn Wilson, and Mary Wiseman. After tonight, the series will be exclusive to the CBS All Access streaming service, with seven additional new episodes (including a second new episode tonight) arriving weekly this fall, with the second half of the season launching in January. A Talking Trek aftershow also streams on All Access after each episode.

Anne Heche and Mike Vogel star. The series comes from Dean Georgaris, a relative newcomer to TV who wrote the screenplay for the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate as well as a Lara Croft movie.
Clinica de Migrantes MOVIE Trailer Documentary HBO 9p
The Good Doctor NEW Trailer Drama ABC 10p
A brilliant but socially awkward doctor who works in a prestigious hospital, in a drama created by David Shore? You've seen it before, and you'll see it again this season. But The Good Doctor's Shaun Murphy (Bates Motel's Freddie Highmore) isn't exactly the second coming of Dr. Gregory House. For one thing, he's a surgeon. And that lack of social grace? Rather than misanthropy, it's autism. Shore adapted the drama (along with actor Daniel Dae Kim, who produces but does not star) from a South Korean series. Richard Schiff also stars.
Halloween Baking Championship Reality competition Food, 9p
Kevin Can Wait Comedy CBS 9p
Leah Remini, who appeared in the season 1 finale, joins the series as a regular for season 2, while season 1 co-star Erinn Hayes has been dropped from the cast.
Me, Myself & I NEW Trailer Comedy CBS 9:30p
This uniquely structured single-camera comedy focuses on one man's life in three different time periods. John Larroquette plays him as a 65-year-old (25 years in the future), Bobby Moynihan stars as the 40-year-old, present-day version, and youngster Jack Dylan Grazer will play him as a 14-year-old in scenes set in 1991. Dan Kopelman (Galavant, Malcolm in the Middle) is the creator of the series, which also stars Brian Unger, Jaleel White, and Mandell Maughan.

The Daily Show correspondent gets his own nightly topical series which will find him satirizing alt-right media outlets like Infowars.
  Scorpion Drama CBS 10p

Young Sheldon NEW Trailer Comedy CBS 8:30p
Chuck Lorre's first single-camera comedy is a spinoff from The Big Bang Theory centering on that show's Sheldon Cooper back when he was a 9-year-old child attending high school (not a typo) in East Texas. You obviously won't see Jim Parsons (who plays Cooper in the original series) in the prequel—Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) plays the youngster—but you will hear him narrating the series. Annie Potts co-stars as Meemaw, while Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro are among the producers, and Jon Favreau directs tonight's opener. Special sneak preview tonight; the series returns on November 2 in its normal timeslot (Thursdays at 8:30p).

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders NEW Trailer Drama NBC 10p
Dick Wolf's latest NBC series finds the producer venturing into the (apparently) still-hot true crime genre. This eight-episode series examines one of the most sensational 1990s criminal cases not involving a former NFL player: the trial of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez for the murders of their parents. Edie Falco plays defense attorney Leslie Abramson, while other cast members include Julianne Nicholson, Josh Charles, Heather Graham, and Anthony Edwards. Law & Order vet Rene Balcer writes and serves as showrunner, and Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men, Twin Peaks) directs and produces. If ratings are good, consider this the first season in an ongoing anthology; if not, it's merely a miniseries.

Revival of the classic educational children's show features a new theme song by Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda. Kate McKinnon stars, but you'll also hear from the original show's Lily Tomlin.
Marvel's Inhumans NEW Trailer1 Trailer2 Drama ABC 8p
ABC's third Marvel series is not a spinoff from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (nor a replacement for the planned but delayed Inhumans feature film) but rather a separate series focusing on the super-powered Inhumans royal family. (Think of them as a Disney-owned version of the X-Men mutants.) Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) heads the cast as Black Bolt and Serinda Swan (Ballers) plays his wife Medusa, while Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel's Iron Fist) serves as showrunner. The Hawaii-set series will get an unconventional (and unprecedented) rollout: tonight's double-episode opener will actually debut first on 1,000 IMAX screens, with a two-week run beginning September 1st. (Those big-screen episodes will actually be filmed entirely with IMAX cameras and be financed by IMAX.) But given fans' reactions to the two trailers unveiled so far (hint: not good), it may be hard for Marvel to fill those theaters.

A skeptic (Craig Robinson) is paired with a brilliant true believer (Adam Scott) by a secret government agency to investigate paranormal activity in Los Angeles, uncovering a much larger, world-threatening mystery in the process. Joining Sedgwick (who takes over for the originally cast Demi Moore) in the cast are Erika Christensen and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Wisdom of the Crowd NEW Trailer Drama CBS 8:30p
If you miss Person of Interest, then CBS has a new high-tech crime procedural for you. TV's Jeremy Piven stars in this adaptation of an Israeli series as a Bay Area tech innovator who creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing app to solve his daughter's murder, and finds out that it can be used to solve other crimes as well. (If we had to guess, we'd say it's able to solve an average of one crime per week, not including holidays.) Monica Potter and Richard T. Jones also star.

Actor Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) is the creator (along with his wife Dana Klein) and star of this semi-autobiographical sitcom about a man who finds himself living in an apartment adjacent to one occupied by his parents (on one side) and another by his brother, sister-in-law, and their baby (on the other side). The multi-camera comedy also stars Linda Lavin, David Walton, Liza Lapira, Elliot Gould, and Matt Murray.

Kevin (Probably) Saves the World NEW Drama ABC 10p
This recently retitled series (originally called The Gospel of Kevin) stars Jason Ritter as the latest in a long tradition of TV characters who are able to talk to angels or godlike celestial beings. (That list includes Ritter's previous show, Joan of Arcadia.) Specifically, in this lighthearted drama from the duo of Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (Agent Carter, Reaper), Ritter plays a clueless, self-serving man caught in a downward spiral until a messenger from god gives him a mission to save the world. JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Kimberly Hebert Gregory (taking over for Cristela Alonzo, who played the angel in the original pilot) also star.

Noah Baumbach’s latest feature (and first for the streaming service) comes on the heels of the critically successful Mistress America and While We’re Young, and, once again, the writer-director seems to have connected with critics, who generally liked the film when it debuted at Cannes in May. This story of an estranged family’s reunion focuses on the relationship between Dustin Hoffman’s artist father and his sons, half-brothers played by Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler. (Yes, it's a good Sandler film. That is indeed a rarity.)

The good news is that this new series comes from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan (along with CSI:NY and Southland writer Aaron Rahsaan Thomas), while Justin Lin (Fast Five) directs tonight's pilot and also serves as a producer. Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) heads a cast that also includes Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Stephanie Sigman, and Kenny Johnson.

'Tis a shame that /Love It or List It/ and /The Property Brothers/ shows do not appear in the area of the site where viewers can give heir opinion of the shows ("User Reviews"). Those two franchises (and the various spin-offs) have appeared to all but take over the HGTV channel. And that's a shame because they do not warrant the amount of airtime they have taken over.

  • Searchtrap

Isn't there a maker / inventor television show coming up? I kept seeing ads for it but for the life of me I can't find the network or title anywhere. I think it premieres on January 21, but don't quote me on that.
