With the fewest hours of programming to fill out of any network (especially with some surprising renewals), The CW had only a few changes to announce, though those changes affected every night of the week, since may returning shows were shifted to different nights.

  • There's some good news for fans of the CW's dramas: unexpectedly, both "Life Unexpected" and "One Tree Hill" have been renewed.
  • First-year drama "Melrose Place" has been canceled. Reality programs "Fly Girls" and "High Society" also will not be returning.
  • The network will launch a pair of dramas in the fall, including a reboot of the La Femme Nikita franchise, and a drama about the world of competitive cheerleading.
  • The upcoming 10th season of "Smallville" will be its last.

Below, we take a closer look at the CW's projected schedule, followed by descriptions of the network's new programs.

The CW's primetime schedule

In addition to the shows listed below, the newly announced reality program "Plain Jane" will premiere this summer. New programs are indicated in bold in the schedule below. All times are ET/PT unless otherwise indicated.

The CW's new programs

First-year series on The CW's schedule during the 2010-11 season include:

Hellcats
High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale co-stars in this drama about a Southern university's competitive cheerleading squad. The show centers on a pre-law student (Aly Michalka) in Memphis who turns to cheerleading after she loses her scholarship.

Nikita
Based on the movie La Femme Nikita (which previously spawned a series on the USA network in the late 1990s), this action show stars Maggie Q as an assassin for a secretive government organization who goes rogue and threatens to expose the group. Lyndsy Fonseca co-stars as another assassin who is trained to replace her.

Plain Jane
British fashion expert Louise Roe gives ordinary-looking girls (in the eyes of the show, at least) a head-to-toe makeover in advance of dates with long-time crushes. This eight-episode reality series will air this summer.

@ Nick: The CW isn't canceling Smallville, it's having a last season where storylines will be allowed to come to a real conclusion and not leave fans cut off without any satisfaction, unlike so many other great shows. The actors, writers and producers are all ready to be finished. After all, it's been 10 years since it began. Be grateful they didn't just write it off!
I agree, Supernatural is excellent, and Nikita could be interesting. However Hellcats just sounds, well, hellish.

I can't believe that the cw is cancelling smallville! The show has the potential to last another 5 season! and don't get me started on supernatural. These two shows are the heart of cw! HellCats! Why!

Answer to the question "who cares/watches The CW?"
Middle/High School teenagers. Just look at the shows they've got playing...

Other than Supernatural its nothing but teen drama.

    Supernatural is excellent.

Smallville over the seasons i've come to the conclusion that their episodes an sometimes entire seasons are Hit or Miss.... Like the overall plot of season 4 was pure garbage. However Season 8 was genius...

    HELLCATS? Really? Jesus.

I watched CW back when they had Everybody Hates Chris
I don't really like teen dramas that much (except Glee I guess) so almost everything on the network is unwatchable for me. Smallville is okay though

  • Collin

As I've sarcastically said before, who actually watches the CW?

  • Mitch Tough

One Tree Hill will liver forever. Are there any original cast members left?

  • zach

who gives a crap about the CW
