We want your Academy Award predictions!
With the February 2nd announcement of the Academy Award nominations rapidly approaching, everybody seems to have an opinion on the likely nominees. We'd like to know yours.
Can Metacritic users do a better job of predicting the nominees than the "experts"? Let's find out. Give us your list of likely best picture nominees -- and the acting and directing nominees as well, if you like -- and we'll tally the results. Then, in early February, we'll publish your predictions and compare them to those of the professionals, and see which group did a better job of guessing the actual nominees.
Remember, the Academy will be nominating 10 films (rather than the usual five) for best picture this year, so you will have to dig deep and come up with a list of 10 movies that you feel will get selected.
Need help making your selections? You may want to review our list of the best-reviewed movies of 2009, which also includes the movies that wound up on critic top-ten lists at the end of the year. If you think the Golden Globes are a good indicator, we have a list of those winners as well. Metacritic's Film Editor has also compiled a list of the movies that have already earned nominations and awards from a variety of critic, press and professional organizations.
Oh, and there's no need to guess the actual winners yet -- we'll ask for those closer to the actual awards ceremony in March.
Submit a comment (using the form below) that lists your 10 predicted best picture nominees. You may also list 5 predicted nominees for lead actor, 5 for lead actress, and 5 for best director. Please do not list any other categories (there's only so much tallying we can do). Submissions with more than 10 best picture predictions and more than 5 predictions for the acting or directing categories will be disregarded. One submission per person, please. Voting closes at 11:59pm PST on January 31st.
