Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

An outrageous and imaginative summer comedy.

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Transcendently dumb but very funny comedy.

Washington Post Michael O'Sullivan

Genial rather than an affront to good taste. It's also pretty darn funny.

Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman

While a good deal funnier than ''Deuce Bigelow,'' is still destined to get branded, if not condemned, as ''dumb.''

USA Today Susan Wloszczyna

Schneider, with his cherub curls and scrawny physique, adopts a pussycat persona that engenders goodwill.

If The Animal -- co-written by Schneider and Tom Brady -- never quite gets fired up, at least it chugs along efficiently on its mildly inspired ridiculousness.

A sweethearted trifle.

Slate David Edelstein

A perfectly decent second-banana, Rob Schneider, has been over-optimistically elevated to the top of the bunch.

Chicago Reader Lisa Alspector

Mild gross-out comedy integrates a non sequitur -- a running joke made by a sidekick -- into the plot, providing some payoff.

New York Post Jonathan Foreman

Isn't quite up to the comic standard of Rob Schneider's 1999 hit "Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo."

New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman

Judging by the audience reaction -- there is apparently something funny about the idea of a man trying to hump a goat in heat.

If this adds up to a full-fledged feature film, I'm a monkey's uncle.

Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov

Hardly a comic masterpiece -- the jokes are awfully broad and obvious -- but I couldn't help feeling relieved at the film's absence of malice.

The Animal is tailor-made for last-resort Friday-night rentals.

The movie's selling point is Schneider acting goofy, chewing on worms, making goo-goo eyes at a she-goat and licking his private parts.

Let's face it, some people find butt and bathroom comedy funny. And some don't.

Through it all, Rob Schneider comes off as a jackass in The Animal.

Christian Science Monitor David Sterritt

Has amusing bits of social satire, but they're crowded out of the stable by lots of bathroom and barnyard humor.

Nasr gave it a6:
6 would be fair...its got its moments..the actress is fine...but rob schneider shudnt have been given hair on his ass!!...lolz...anywayz the low profile kinda feel to the characters and some other little things save it from being entirely gross!

Chris Z. gave it a 10:
Funny in a weird way good movie and i need some more pics cuz im drawing a transition with ROb shcneider turning into a stapeler.

Rach B. gave it a 10:
This movie was funny as hell. Note to Janine D who was offended by the Filipino comment: Rob Schneider is actually part Filipino.

Sunny S. gave it a 2:
Not a really good example of the comedy genre. The actors were ok but the plot was awful. This particular script could have had quite a bit of potential to be somewhat mediocre but as we can see it lacks any real punchlines, good visuals, stunts or subplots. The film tries to emphasise on the zero to hero transition of the lead character (Rob Schneider) but one couldn't care. As for the comedy it is mainly Rob Schneider miming to some animal sound effects which was ok the 1st time you see it but is heavily overused in the film which makes you wonder wether you could've wrote a better script. To sumerise it, should one find the DVD at any retailer, it comes in handy under the leg of a rocking table.

Tom L. gave it a 4:
Cheap and Predictable.

Brad H. gave it a 6:
Stupid, Yes. But it had some really funny moments. And it's not like I was expecting "Das Boot."

Maxine R. gave it a 6:
A lot of funny jokes! But a bad ending.
