Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Besson's restored Big Blue proves mystical, intriguing.

Portland Oregonian Kim Morgan

A flawed fable but an intriguing one nonetheless. It's "Splash" gone existential. How many films can you name like that?

50

TV Guide Frank Lovece

Deeply adolescent; its impact is visceral rather than intellectual.

Village Voice Mark Holcomb

The results are predictably lachrymose, especially with the reinstated "unhappy" ending from the original French version.

Let's call this "rethinking" The Abysmal.

Troy gave it a10:
All time great, visually stunning with amazing characters. The original sound-track is wonderful.

David B. gave it a10:
Outstanding movie that is so unlike the predictable commercial movies of today. This movie takes its time and leaves a lot up to the viewer rather than spelling it all out for us. Very moving for me.

Johnathan H. gave it a 0:
It's rubbish and very boring.

Dennis S. gave it a 10:
This is an epic movie. Visually stunning and unusual theme and a brilliant cast. I only have seen the extended version. The 119min cut I might find a completely different film.

Heather H. gave it a 10:
This has to be the most excellent movie I have ever seen! The story line is magical. Although I preferred the original version over the director's cut, it is and always will be my favorite movie of all time.

Spencer N. gave it a 10:
Such a good movie, but I'm curious of what HAPPENED to the OLD soundtrack... the music that came with the first (non-director cut)... where is that music? It was good.. This director's cut I don't like much.

Donna W. gave it a 10:
I really don't understand why some people trash this movie. It's stunning and brilliant. I LOVE IT!
