When rival figure skaters Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) go ballistic in an embarrassing, no-holds-barred fight at the World Championships, they are stripped of their gold medals and banned from the sport for life. Now, three-and-a-half years on, they've found a loophole that will allow them to compete: if they can put aside their differences, they can skate together -- in pairs' figure skating. I went into this movie with extremely low expectations, and was surprised to find myself cracking up through the whole thing. Of course it's stupid, of course it's immature. It's one of the silliest damn movies I've seen in a while, the funniest comedy this year other than Superbad, Knocked Up and Hot Fuzz.

Like so many Ferrell movies, it started out very funny for the first 10 or20 minutes, then slowly sank to boring predictability. It wanted to be a satire of skating/sports hype but wimped out into a strange kind of homoerotic buddy romance. Good for a few laughs, but don't bet your evening on it.

In bleak and cynical times like this, it feels so good to laugh, even if the humor isn't exactly highbrow. The costumes alone are worth the price of the rental. Seeing Will Arendt and Amy Poehler in those horribly awesome hip-hop outfits.....please! If you can watch the first 10 minutes and not laugh...I feel sad for you. Embrace some silly, it's okay. You can balance it out by reading the New Yorker cover to cover tomorrow.

The movie was mediocre at best. A lot of the jokes weren't very funny. What made it worse was that several of the unfunny jokes were re-used throughout the film as a running gag. I wanted to like this movie, but when placed next to Ferrell's other works like Anchorman.. it just doesn't compare.

Quite possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Only slightly better than Nacho Libre, which isn't saying much. How does Will Ferrell go from making good movies like "Stranger Than Fiction" to such crap?
