New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman

A lovely little coming-of-age story, this Taiwanese romance was directed by Chih-Yen Yee with a skillful subtlety enhanced by his young cast.

New York Post V.A. Musetto

The sensitive subject matter is handled discreetly by writer-director Chin-yen Yee, who never lets the story sink into exploitation or finger-pointing.

Village Voice Dennis Lim

Set largely in empty public spaces late at night, Blue Gate Crossing supplements its slender narrative with disarming performances and plangent atmosphere.

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Little more than a vignette elongated into a feature-length movie. Moody and slow moving, it depends on the truthfulness of its performances to carry it.

Slight but affecting.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

Resembling a short story more than a narrative feature, the film tells its slender story in leisurely fashion, relying more on mood and atmosphere than dialogue or character development.

Chris T. gave it a9:
One of the best films I've seen, and I'm a harsh critic. The framing and mise en scene are amazing, the mood (although Disneyland cleaner-than-life) is quintessentially evocative of a modern Asian city at night. The subtlety and realism of the characters and plot are sincerely moving. I'm thrilled to find a teen movie that breaks all the tropes of teen films: no cheesy montages, no dumb sex jokes. 9/10 only because of a slightly lame piano soundtrack which asian filmmakers tend to overuse.

Julie C gave it a 10:
Loved it great.

Rui L. gave it a 10:
This is the best love story movie I ever seen.

Stone Dead gave it a 6:
Quite good...but like Derek Elley said...it's low on content. But I think it's still a good movie.
