TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
Shrewder than you'd think and not half as dumb as it looks.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas
At times a little callow around the edges, Boy Culture upon reflection, displays considerable insight. It is buoyed by some incisive acting and writing and anchored by a standout portrayal from Bauchau, a versatile veteran of international cinema.
Read Full Review >Chicago Tribune Michael Phillips
It's a better-than-average gay relationship film, largely because neither plot mechanics nor the same old camp intrude much.
Read Full Review >Variety Ronnie Scheib
A strong cast, formal visual style and cynical voiceover that propels the action help elevate this Seattle-set gay romp from the ranks of the stereotypical.
Read Full Review >Village Voice Ernest Hardy
All told, this is a harmless, well-packaged bit of overly familiar fluff.
Read Full Review >Film Threat Phil Hall
It is an entertaining bit of fluff, with a few engaging performances and enough visual panache to keep audiences diverted and amused.
Read Full Review >Chicago Reader Andrea Gronvall
Director Q. Allan Brocka (Eating Out) keeps the tone downbeat for too long, but one can't fault his ambition in tackling the elusive connections between love, sex, and money.

Almost overcomes weak source material to become a decent film.
Read Full Review >Seattle Post-Intelligencer Gianni Truzzi
These self-involved studs manage to make ready, anonymous sex look rather dull.
Read Full Review >Boston Globe James Reed
It doesn't know if it wants to wallow in its characters' pity or to flesh them out with their own personalities. So it does both, with half-hearted results.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Jonathan Padget
Opportunities for dramatic tension, comedic effect, erotic energy, even just flat-out weirdness -- all are squandered by Brocka and the actors in a haze of blandness that gives the film all the edge of a particularly gay Gap commercial.

Jack M. gave it an8:
Rather like the film Shortbus in its exploration of sexual healing, Boy Culture examines the relationship of heart and lust. A good sense of humor and lots of overlapping plot follow the Mame philosophy that Life's a banquet (and more poor suckers are starving). Enjoy.
Nathan gave it a10:
I admit the last couple of gay movies like Brokeback Mountain and Garcon Stupide were unengaging or only good for one viewing and I feared that this one would be the same but I found it funny and nasty with a heart to it. It was so good I seriously want to see it again and I'm definetly going to buy the DVD.
Tracy B. gave it a6:
Enjoyable escape but not a great film.
