The Brothers Solomon tells the hilarious story of Dean and John Solomon, two good-hearted but romantically-challenged brothers. When they find out their dying father’s last wish is for a grandchild, the brothers set out to find someone to have a baby with. But after spending their formative years being home-schooled by their father in a remote arctic location, their social skills prove to be somewhat lacking and their attempts at fatherhood go hysterically and disastrously wrong. The Onion (A.V. Club) Keith Phipps
A better film would have matched Arnett's seemingly effortless intensity throughout. This okay film does merely okay by it.

The sheer, animal idiocy beaming from their faces in the opening credits of The Brothers Solomon creates the film's only moment of uncalculated comic joy.
Read Full Review >The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Farber
The movie doesn't have much visual style or atmosphere, but it does have a kinder, gentler spirit than many gross-out comedies, and that makes it a likable time killer.
Read Full Review >USA Today Claudia Puig
There's nothing very wise about The Brothers Solomon. It's a moderately funny premise in search of some real laughs.
Read Full Review >Boston Globe Tom Russo
This new goof might have been funnier still if the premise weren't so derivative, so just been there, done that.

The stoy makes no sense, and the two lead characters are repulsive, but I must confess I laughed immoderately at this clever piece of junk.

A syrupy fable about love and family? What happened? Did they lose their nerves? Or did some meddling studio executive pull them back before they went too far out on a limb? The comedy gods hate a coward, so let’s hope it’s the latter.

About the best thing that can be said about The Brothers Solomon is that it's harmless. It's mild, familiar, and as inconsequential as a sitcom episode.

If anyone is to blame for this bomb it's Forte: He wrote the thing, and one would assume he's the one responsible for those uncomfortable silences where jokes are supposed to be.
Read Full Review >New York Daily News Jack Mathews
The upbeat brothers are full of sweetness and love, but the script is made of taffy, and if you can chew and laugh at the same time, you're welcome to it.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Matt Zoller Seitz
A deranged, sometimes desperate parody of an inspirational losers-make-good comedy. Three gags miss for every one that hits.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Chuck Wilson
There is nothing sadder, either in real life or on the movie screen, than an unlikable idiot, and what we have with this dreadful comedy -- the longest 90 minutes of the film year -- is the sight of not one but two charm-free fools.
Read Full Review >The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Stephen Cole
There is no getting these boys down. They are just like Lloyd and Harry in the Farrelly brothers' breakthrough 1994 hit, "Dumb & Dumber." Except that they are never, ever funny.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Chronicle Peter Hartlaub
Had a lot of promise, but ultimately isn't very funny.
Read Full Review >Variety Peter Debruge
If "Hot Rod" and "The Ex" couldn't attract an audience, this full-blown comedy miscarriage stands no chance.
Read Full Review >New York Post Lou Lumenick
Excruciatingly acted and ineptly directed by Bob Odenkirk, The Brothers Solomon is faux Farrelly brothers that should have gone straight to video.

Todd B. gave it an8:
I was surprised by the poor ratings. I laughed a lot, and i consider myself fairly critical of comedies.
kak gave it a9:
I've never commented here before, and given the wretched reviews professional and amateur so far given I felt I should weigh in. This movie is definitely worth seeing if you're into awkward comedy. This is perhaps the most awkward comedy I've seen in a theatre. Everyone has latched onto the SNL connection so far with Will Forte, but the important one is definitely his one episode stint on HBO's Flight of the Conchords. That's the style he's going for. And Will Arnett pulls it all of beautifully alongside him. Again, if you like Extras, Flight of the Conchords, the Office (and don't come back just to follow the status of Jim and Pam's relationship); if you liked Stranger than Fiction... Given a nine, by the way, because I don't really believe in giving tens.
Kevin C. gave it a10:
Will Arnett is the shit.
Kevin R gave it a5:
An utterly average film with a few hilarious scenes. Will Arnett is good, but even his Arrested Development references cannot save this mediocrity.
