San Francisco Chronicle Peter Stack
This wacky buddy road film... has a brilliant glow of intelligence behind the stupidness. It's easily the funniest movie of the year.

A flat-out celebration of stupidity, bodily functions and pratfalls. Yet the wholeheartedness of this descent into crude and rude humor is so good-natured and precise that it's hard not to partake in the guilty pleasures of the exercise.
Read Full Review >Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
There are limits to how much comic irony can be wrung out of the sight of two grown men acting like complete cretins.

An atrocious movie. An offensively stupid movie. A movie so witless and so crammed with bathroom humour that you will be deeply thankful for the darkness that envelops you - it lets you hide the fact (disturbing as it is) that you do laugh at the antics of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, in spite of yourself.

Underlying the slapstick, however, is an extravagant parody of American culture--bad taste, bad manners, the gushing sentimentality of Lloyd's daydreams, or the classic westward road trip, complete with diner scenes and archetypal rednecks.

A few of the bad-taste gags are funny, and Carrey's grimaces have a certain inspired delirium, but this is a long way from the social comedy of Jerry Lewis.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Marjorie Baumgarten
Maybe it's indicative of my end-of-the-year brain-fry, but this dopey comedy about two of the dumbest guys in the universe on a road trip to misadventure is a hoot.
Read Full Review >Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
The plot is lame, but that doesn't matter, because Dumb and Dumber is essentially pitched at the level of an "Airplane!"-style movie, with rapid-fire sight gags.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Stephen Holden
A movie that knows much better than to try to make sense. It is essentially a strung-together series of gags, most of them thought up by Lloyd, an inveterate practical joker.
Read Full Review >ReelViews James Berardinelli
At its best, Dumb and Dumber is like an Ernest movie with a scatological bent.
Read Full Review >The New Yorker Michael Sragow
But the screenplay for this deliberately over-the-top (under-the-bottom?) farce—about Carrey's unwitting retrieval of some ransom money and his effort to return it to his dream gal (Lauren Holly) in Aspen—doesn't pass muster as a string of moronic skits (studded with urine and fart jokes) or as a lampoon of buddy movies.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Rita Kempley
An abominable, abdominal comedy. Aside from its tastelessness and dawdling pace, the movie’s chief problem is the lackluster chemistry between leading lummoxes Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Desson Thomson
An uneven collection of bodily function jokes, facial gyrations, sexual jibes and pedestrian slapstick, Dumb and Dumber appears to have been conceived by the leading lugheads themselves.

This is probably my favorite comedy of all time. For some reason people who don't like it tend to say things like, "too crude," "its toilet humor" and other architypically pompous criticisms. Personally I have a very silly childish sense of humor and I love it. It helps me see the funny side to everything in life even the most absurd of bad luck. And that's why I love this film, it perfectly reflects the futile struggle of growing up as a young male in this society, wanting all those things you'll probably just never get, and generally being down on your luck most of the time. But you know you'll look back at the crazy things that happen and having a good friend in the same position makes it all OK. I used to watch this with my best friend when we first started hanging out in our own flats and houses I have probably seen it about 30 times. I would go so far as to say that if someone doesn't like this film I probably wouldn't have anything in common with them and therefore would probably not want to hang around with them.
Kurt H gave it a9:
'Dumb and Dumber' is a classic. The funniest movie of the 90's. With a close second being 'There's Something about Mary' Do not listen to the critics on this movie.
Scott R. gave it a10:
What a classic - Yes, when 99% of everyone I know my age (I'm 24) think this is one of the top five comedies of all time it means it's a classic. Even though I only know 3 other people (yes, I have a sibling), it's still embarrassing and discrediting for the critics to have given it such a low rating. This was the first and last movie review I'll read on this site.
Ryan M. gave it a10:
Best (and funniest) movie ever made. Perfection from beginning to end.
Ted K gave it a10:
Probably the funniest movie ever made. I feel bad for anyone that can't enjoy comedy like this. It's filled with classic moments that never get old. It's hard to pick a favorite scene but I guess mine would be Lloyd's fantasy in the Chinese restaurant.
Rei T. gave it a0:
What a waste of money and film. The movie is lam, is bad, bad taste, jokes that are not funny. It will be a classic of the bad, it will dissapear from the movie rentals IF get there.
Dry Bones gave it a10:
An absolute classic comedy that's probably too much to handle for critics who would rather be watching Dodgeball or Starsky & Hutch. Carey and Daniels form one of the greatest comedy duos of the generation, no questions asked. Great supporting cast, cameos, and soundtrack all work to compliment a hilarious script and perfect deliveries by the film's stars.
