At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter’s adage; never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that Catherine wishes she had never married. As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experimental he calls “The Love Dare”. When Caleb discovers the book’s daily challenges are tied into his parents’ newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened. Is it too late to fireproof his marriage? Caleb Holt’s job is to rescue others, but now he has to face his toughest job ever…rescuing his wife’s heart. (Samuel Goldwyn Films)

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck
While hardly sophisticated in its approach and certainly not polished in its technical elements, the film does get its heartfelt message across with undeniable sincerity.
Read Full Review >Entertainment Weekly Chris Willman
The filmmakers hedge their bets by making the young marrieds agnostic at the start of the movie, in order to turn Fireproof into a manual for eternal as well as marital salvation.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Ed Gonzales
Then the film gets all religulous, suggesting that Caleb's devotion to healing means nothing without Jesus, and so Fireproof stops becoming relatable to us all and only to the already, or easily, indoctrinated.

Makes for fruitful soul-fishing but lousy drama.

Cameron acts like a childish jerk, even in the reconciliation phase, and the underlying reason is that he--and the movie--hates women.

Mark P. gave it a9:
This movie may not be a highly polished Hollywood production, but was none the less very well made, funny and had a very good story line. The message was clearly one of hope that a relationship can be saved if one is truly willing to work at it. The twist about the husband's father is both surprising and enlightening. In the USA where lust, greed and killing are the major topics of most films, this movie stands out as one with both a good storyline and overall message.
b f gave it a7:
so so acting with a storyline that should have been better developed; still gets it's message across whether you are a believer or not that marriage takes work; there are alot of guys out there like Caleb who do not know how to appreciate their wives and this movie should be a wake up call for them; also re: the lure of the feelings one gets from attention (i.e. Dr. Keller towards Catherine) when she could have focused more on saving her marriage too
Kristen A gave it a0:
This movie hate women. It's childish and over the top bad acting. Overly religious. AWFUL!
Linda gave it an8:
The content of this movie is well worth the watch...and on several levels. If all you care about is high action with today's very best movie making...then you will be disappointed. However, if you like a good movie, with heart and good old-time story telling... you will not be disappointed. Anybody can enjoy this movie. If a Christian, it will make your heart sing.
T F gave it a10:
Nice enough drama with a good message. Production wasn't the greatest but the budget was probably a few hundred thousand (if that).
Neal E gave it a10:
This was an excellent movie and far exceeded my expectations. From what I see from the reviews, you either love it or you hate it. I loved it. A profound simplicity that anyone married or unmarried can be challenged by. The movie did well in mingling humor and serious scenes. I willl take movies like this any day over the shallow and superficial creations that Hollywood is prone to churn out.
Ben S gave it a0:
I am all about making marriage work and following Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, like so many Christian-made films, it fails not because of its well-intentioned message, but because that message seems to supercede all the things that would make it a good film, like ACTING. "The Passion of The Christ" was wonderful because it had great acting, cinematography, special effects, and so many other things which make a film memorable, and it still got its message across. Films like "Fireproof", which sound more like tracts than stories, simply won't cut the mustard with anyone except evangelicals who are used to those kinds of films.
