Deep in the heart of the African jungle, a baby named George, the sole survivor of a plane crash, is raised by gorillas. George grows up to be a buff and lovable klutz who has a rain forest full of animal friends. When poachers mess with George's pals, the King Of Swing swings into action. (Disney)

Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
A movie that is sort of funny some of the time and then occasionally hilarious.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle
One of the most witty, entertaining family films to come out in some time.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Lawrence Van Gelder
The kind of silly summer fun that gives family entertainment a good name.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Rita Kempley
Brendan Fraser breathes loopy new life into the swinging '60s TV cartoon icon.
Read Full Review >Variety Leonard Klady
Not quite inspired lunacy, the film has a game, likable quality.
Read Full Review >ReelViews James Berardinelli
Possesses both an edge and a sense of self-mocking that's unusual for any feature, live or animated.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Manohla Dargis
This bit of fluff overflows with so much honest charm it barely matters that it's one in a seemingly endless succession of Tarzan retreads.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan
Sporadically playful, it ends up wearing as thin as any film geared to a preteen sense of humor is bound to do.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov
So silly, so garishly over-the-top, and so bracingly eager to please, that it's hard not to fall under its gleefully gooney spell.
Read Full Review >Chicago Reader Jonathan Rosenbaum
An amiable, highly ingratiating piece of lowbrow entertainment.
Read Full Review >Christian Science Monitor David Sterritt
The plot is predictable, and the humor is uncreative and often crude. The heroine, however, is endearing in her quirkiness.
Read Full Review >TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
John Cleese supplies the voice of George's brainy and terrifically tolerant sidekick, a very unconvincing animatronic gorilla named Ape, but even he can't raise the level of humor above the harmlessly goofy.
Read Full Review >The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Liam Lacey
They are singing the jingle in the bath, in bed, in the car, ready to send you, like George, smack into a tree.
Read Full Review >USA Today Mike Clark
This one's aimed at those airheads who, like George, have been swinging on a grapevine and slamming into too many trees. [16 July 1997, p. 3D]
The Onion (A.V. Club) Stephen Thompson
This appalling desecration of Jay Ward's 1960s cartoon series suffers from countless movie-ruining flaws.

Justin K gave it a9:
This movie is so conscious of the fact that it's supposed to be a bad movie that, through hilarious fourth-wall references et al., it becomes a great movie. Charming, hilarious, and most importantly, fun!
R. Dalvi gave it a10:
Entertaining as well as excellent.
JayCub S. gave it a10:
This is absolutely my favorite movie. It's stayed in my heart since my childhood, for it is a perfect children's movie....for children. And me.
Tim G. gave it a10:
It's great!
