70

LA Weekly Robert Abele

Sandler crony Allen Covert, the star, producer and co-writer of this stunted-adolescence classic, hilariously explores a previously untapped nexus of stoner humor, joystick geekdom, elderly women and a martial arts-taught chimp.

Los Angeles Times Roger Moore

It's as aimless and pointless as a joke told while stoned. There are some pretty decent shock-laughs, often provided by Jones, who hasn't ever been this nasty.

50

The New York Times Dana Stevens

It cheerfully invites the audience to descend to their level, where no joke is too silly or raunchy, and a plot is just a way of passing time between game levels and bong hits.

Variety Ronnie Scheib

Even Sandler diehards may pass on this mostly derivative paean to compulsive computer geekdom and male sexual dysfunction.

Film Threat Michael Ferraro

A touch above the usual adolescent male friendly films of Happy Madison's previous on-screen massacres (see "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" for example”) but it isn't quite as smart or funny as other recent comedies like "40 Year-Old Virgin" or "Wedding Crashers."

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

The film doesn't have much in the way of genuine laughs despite a plethora of attempted gags, but it does have a geniality that makes it hard to entirely dislike.

Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov

Stupid, yes, but fun nonetheless.

Chicago Reader Joshua Katzman

The sex, fart, and pot jokes come so fast and furious that a white flag seems the most appropriate response.

The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Liam Lacey

An Adam Sandler movie without Adam Sandler, it turns out, is not necessarily an improvement.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Nathan Rabin

Grandma's Boy aspires to nothing more than the frathouse goofiness and juvenile high spirits of early Sandler vehicles, but it possesses the energy of a funeral dirge played at half-speed.

Entertainment Weekly Gregory Kirschling

Does a very thorough job of reducing every recognizable member of the cast to probable career lows.

TV Guide Ken Fox

Lacking so much as a shred of wit and crammed with more product placements than jokes, this unendurable stoner comedy clearly disproves the movie-formula wisdom that two guys, one Xbox and a 2-foot-long bong add up to something funny.

New York Daily News Jami Bernard

There's no drug potent enough to make Grandma's Boy worth 87 minutes of your life.

New York Post Lou Lumenick

A pathetic stoner comedy.

This is one of those movies where you stay rooted in your seat just to see how bad it can really get.

John D. gave it a10:
One of my favorite movies. Any one bashing it as NO funny side. 10/10 for the best comedy movie out there.

Josh K. gave it a10:
This is quite possibly the best movie ever made.

Jake K gave it a10:
I don't know what you guys are talking about because i loved this movie. Very funny parts to it. Hope there is a Grandmas Boy 2.

Timothy G. gave it a10:
i thought it was a great movie. anybody who doesn't like it should stop going on the internet and bitching about it. some people like it so get over it. you are just the worst kind of people.

Glen H. gave it a10:
Fantastic comedy that in NO WAY DESERVES a 32/100 metascore. Hilarious add-libs by the character J.P. make this movie one of the greatest comedies in the last number of years. Look past the jokes that fall flat and you'll love the subtlies of the great supporting cast. "I am JP I like robots I have a robot vagina." Genius.

Aaron D. gave it a9:
So this movie definitely isn't highbrow. The plot is practically non-existant and is just a mechanism to go from gag to joke to gag. Sure, at times it was crude, or a bit shocking. If you are easily offended, I can see not liking this movie... but then why are you going to a Happy Madison production anyway. I'm giving this movie a 9 because it was FUNNY. I laughed long, and hard, all my friends I have shown it to laughed long and hard. And this laughing still occurs even after multiple viewings.

Steven S gave it a7:
This movie had no story, but it actually WAS funny. You just have to get it, seriously.
