Baltimore Sun Michael Sragow

The movie's sweetness, wit and charm go beyond its can't-we-all-just-get-along premise.

Surprise! After a clumsy opening, Guess Who goes down very smoothly. Its cast is appealing, its script is often clever and imaginative.

Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

If the movie had spent more time walking that tightrope between the acceptable and the offensive, between what we have in common and what divides us, it would have been more daring.

Might provide a much-needed fix for Mac's most ardent fans, but they'll have to wait for a star vehicle that fully exploits the range of his comic gifts.

If Guess Who were either a whole lot funnier, or a whole lot less funny, it would be a far better film.

To say it's better than it has any right to be gives the original too much credit and the remake not enough.

It has its share of eye-rolling moments, but at its heart there's a decent story.

Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman

Guess Who, with its PG-13 putdowns, turns into the kind of love story that Hollywood feels most comfortable with: a buddy movie, salt-and-pepper variety. All that's missing is the cop car.

The verdict? Could have been worse. Yes, it's a slightly hollow endorsement, but Guess Who is probably worth your matinee/pub-theater dollar.

So mild and thin that it doesn't inspire much of a reaction at all. With one exception - a dinner table scene that is by far the most memorable in the movie - the racial humor is studiously unprovocative.

Los Angeles Times Kevin Crust

Director Kevin Rodney Sullivan milks the film's one joke for all it's worth - which isn't much - before settling into the rote rhythms of a buddy picture.

Despite the sluggish opening, Kutcher and Bernie Mac ensure that this predictably plotted comedy of preposterous misunderstandings is occasionally quite funny.

Guess Who is, impurely and simply, a comic premise borrowed, turned around and dumbed down to the level of sketch or sub-sketch humor.

Jalex D. gave it a10:
A highly entertaining and important take on a classic film. Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher really make this film work. Otherwise, it would have been mostly average.

Mike B. gave it an8:
It's not a great-class movie. But I kept laughing. It was sweet. I was charmed. I liked it! 8.

c gave it a4:
Weak dialouge - weak delivery - weak movie, Snoozer.

Marshall M. gave it a9:
Reallly good. really funny.

Mercedes W. gave it a10:
I thought this movie was great and funny! It reminds of my dad when he first met my boyfriend who happens to be white (not that it matters). Except for my boyfriend did not crack jokes and my dad was not as tough as Bernie!

jac m. gave it an8:
Great.

Michael D. gave it a1:
This is probabley the worst movie Ashton Kutcher has been in, and he's been in some crappy movies. It sucked with cliche lines and by terribly trying to copycat meet the parents minus the fun but plus annoyance. I cannot stand movies with no originality like this. And one of the worst parts is that everytime in the movie they think they have a plot/joke there isn't any. makes you go like "Huh! was this supposed to be funny?" it's just blunt. In terms of lowness, this movie is right there with xxx and undercover brother, makes you wanna take a shower and forget all the disgust you got from the crappines of the movies like this.
