The New York Times Matt Zoller Seitz
Mostly the film avoids academic trappings, which means that it will be catnip to devotees but impenetrable to outsiders.

Variety Ronnie Scheib
Any baby boomers who wander into Headspace might be forgiven their momentary panic as they are suddenly acid-flashed back to the psychedelic mediocrity of their youth. Jethro Senger's attempt to capture the global mindset of ravers, largely through visual mimicry -- kaleidoscopes, anyone? -- is at best a mixed bag of old tricks.

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
The throbbing, insinuating soundtrack is terrific, and the animated interludes are a welcome respite from the blathering heads, but Senger's point, if he has one, is maddeningly unclear.

Chicago Reader Peter Margasak
Various talking heads regurgitate one cliche after another, and as a kind of visual analog of the club experience, extended passages of kids dancing are treated with excessive digital effects.

Village Voice Jessica Grose
The boredom, repetition, and general incoherence of the film are also rave-like--you might even experience nausea and/or disorientation.

Hondo J. gave it a9:
Jethro Senger's "Headspace" admirably updates the great concert films of the Seventies. Traces of "The Last Waltz" and "The Song Remains the Same" abound: the drug scenes, several youngsters wearing Hobbit inspired Zeppelin garb. This temporal disorientation is accompanied by spatial disorientation, as Senger has drafted some of the most cutting edge graphic designers working in Hollywood to craft a look for the film. The viewer is not required to ingest drugs to have a satisfying experience, but it would not hurt. Indeed, Senger's nom de cineme may have been inspired by supergroup Jethro Tull. "Headspace" is the new "Aqualung." The odds-on favorite so far for Best Documentary laurels at next year's Oscars.
