The New York Times Anita Gates
A one-dimensional romantic comedy that feels like an old-fashioned vehicle picture, the kind the big movie studios used to make in the 1930's and 40's just to bring in the fans of a particular actor or actress.

A pleasantly tuned vehicle for R&B star and budding actor Usher.

All Usher fans really seem to want out of a movie like this is an opportunity to ogle their idol for an hour and a half. And that's all this movie affords them.

A genially cruddy B movie can sometimes go places - sort of - that bigger movies won't.
Read Full Review >Dallas Observer Luke Y. Thompson
All of the plot developments seem half-hearted -- which is a shame, because the star has the charm to succeed if given a better movie.
Read Full Review >TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
That the 27-year-old Usher isn't much of an actor is no surprise, but he's strikingly uncharismatic for someone who's been in the spotlight since he was six.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Christopher Orr
The movie pitches itself as a modern-day "Romeo and Juliet," but its execution is so lazy and inept that if the lovers were to die horribly it would come more as relief than tragedy. Sadly, in this respect, as in every other, In the Mix disappoints.
Read Full Review >Chicago Reader Andrea Gronvall
Platinum-selling singer Usher is one hell of a clotheshorse, but he's too amiable to be convincing as a leading man--not that anyone is particularly believable in this feeble comedy.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Kevin Crust
A jumble of genres including mob melodrama, bodyguard romance and interracial love story, none of which is handled in a remotely satisfying manner by director Ron Underwood. The film's tone shifts with all the grace of a car with a balky transmission.

Even diehard fans will get more out of watching a four-minute music video than they'll find in this mixed-up mess.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Chronicle Peter Hartlaub
May be a good tactical move for the artist's career, but it's a bad movie.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov
This vehicle for hip-hop star Usher is no blinged-out Beamer rough-riding it over to Jay-Z's joint to wallop some cheeba up off'n the Zeezer's haid; it's more of a Yugo, as in "You go to this wannabe straight-to-video tripe, you deserve what you get."

Tim J. gave it a10:
Wow, what can I say? Usher IS so attractive, and man can he dance and sing. I would have liked to have seen a little more of "the stomach," but this movie worked. I don't understand all of the haters out there. Sit back, relax, and marvel in the greatness that is Usher!
Ed T. gave it a2:
I have no idea what I'm talking about? I'd say the same about anyone who gives this movie anything above a 3. Face it, this was a bad movie, and Usher has really become full of himself.
Lucas gave it a1:
What ever happened to talent? And literacy?
Raymond U. gave it a7:
I thought it was fun and I liked it. Ed T. has no idea what he is talking about; Usher is attractive. Not everybody can have a flat white head like Philip Seymour Hoffman you know.
DeVon T. gave it a7:
Damn, i don't know why y'all frontin on this flick. dawgz, this wan't no oscar contender. Just a good time, sit back and relax with some popcorn and yo girl. what do you want, the English patent?
Tone Loveness gave it a10:
Unreal. So Stupid, but good for what it is. Anthony Fazio is hilarious. Kevin hart is to. Ushers aiight, not great though. IT stupid fun. Just check it out.
Smooth Ninja gave it a0:
Everything the above post just said In an opposite world this was just used to glorify usher to no avail possibly worse than 50 cents recent entry. nothin if anything was done right if u plan on seein this be prepared to be disgusted Usher has really let the spot light get to him.
