Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

Preserves the flavor of the original and even improves upon it.

70

Washington Post Michael O'Sullivan

If you saw the French version, well, here it is, in Disney language, with John-Hughes-style slapstick.

63

Chicago Tribune Loren King

Recycled French farce isn't a bad thing, but do they really like all those pratfalls?

60

Variety Joe Leydon

A one-joke comedy that is good for more than a few good laughs.

60

LA Weekly F. X. Feeney

A happy vulgarity still reigns.

58

Entertainment Weekly Ty Burr

Forgoes the destructo silliness of the original in favor of one too many bland self help subplots.

50

Film.com Tom Keogh

It does yield solidly comic performances.

San Francisco Chronicle Bob Graham

Amusing enough.

50

The New York Times Dave Kehr

Over all, the humor has been sanitized a bit compared with the darker, more grotesque comedy of the French original.

50

Miami Herald Christine Dolen

Director Jean-Marie Gaubert, who also directed this film's French predecessor, keeps the silly story barreling along.

50

Seattle Post-Intelligencer William Arnold

Not as funny as the original, not nearly as funny.

Mr. Showbiz Kevin Maynard

One more attempt to pass off chopped liver as foie gras.

40

TV Guide Frank Lovece

Heartfelt as Reno and Applegate are here, the film strands them with an impotently blustering, straw-dog villain and a limp, directionless story.

40

Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov

This is a scattershot affair, though fans of Reno should find it engagingly loopy.

40

Washington Post Stephen Hunter

A lot of it is low, crude, admittedly comic in the rudest positive sense, which involves a lot of falling down to humorous effect.

40

New Times (L.A.) M.V. Moorhead

It's a crude, visually ugly, and peculiarly over-plotted movie, but the blunt, pungent, physical shtick is often pretty funny.

40

Los Angeles Times Gene Seymour

Drains the original story of its satire and juices up its shtick, schmaltz and special effects.

38

Boston Globe Joanna Weiss

It's hard to believe anyone would think importing a French comedy was a good idea.

USA Today Andy Seiler

No disinfectant could clean up this misbegotten, Americanized remake of "Les Visiteurs."

Chicago Reader Jonathan Rosenbaum

I haven't seen the original, and this mishmash -- doesn't make me want to.

I nodded off watching Just Visiting.

A mess.

20

Village Voice Michael Atkinson

Not only microwaves what is already four-day-old fish in Paris, but lets the original director, screenwriters, and stars do the reheating.

Don't even think of visiting this French fiasco.

This movie was excellent, and definitely funny. Obviously, the majority of the media has no sense of humor.

David C. gave it a 10:
this a bad remake, the good film is the first of Les visiteurs.

Humberto V. gave it a 10:
HILARIOUS!!! One of the funniest movies EVER.

Carrie L. gave it a 10:
My husband and I laughed out loud.........first time while watching a movie.......very funny.

I found this Film very funny! Jean Remo Rules I give an 8 !

Glenn N. gave it a 10:
Who cares what the critics think? My family and I just loved it. When my nine year old starts reciting lines after seeing it only once, I say "works for me". See it for yourself and make your own decision.

Amanda G. gave it a 7:
Its hard to imaging anyone would even think of importing a french comedy. However it did have some humorous scenes that I proudly comment on.
