Summary

RATING: Not Rated

Starring Sergej Trifunovic, Geno Lechner, Peter Gevisser, Didier Flamand, Mario Padula, Al Naz, Eric Frandsen, and Liat Glick

An absurd coincidence intertwines the lives of a Yugoslav hit-man, his former wife, and her boyfriend - a New York cop whose father was a criminal. The film explores these characters' stories from their different points of view. Through their subjective realities, the film reconstructs their conflicts, and the drama and action that stem from them. (Studio Belgrade)

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis

Love is a mournful thriller about the myth of assimilation and the way nurture - or, more precisely, the lack of it - fashions identity and character. Elegantly directed by Vladan Nikolic using multiple viewpoints and an elliptical, nonlinear narrative, the movie presents a New World disrupted by old grievances and a neglected community living by its own rules.

Variety John Anderson

The action is compelling, the film good looking, the acting first rate and the circumstances -- people from neglected nations in an alienating if not hostile urban landscape -- is moving.

Village Voice Matt Singer

A multi-perspectival film vastly superior to "Crash," Vladan Nikolic's dynamic thriller Love reinvigorates a stale cinematic format and imparts a compelling message all without a single head-on collision.

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh

Yugoslavian-born writer-producer-director-editor Vladan Nikolic weaves together the intersecting stories of lost souls who bring their international miseries to New York in this cool, cynical thriller.

New York Post V.A. Musetto

The finale - a shootout in a church - seems inspired by Hong Kong filmmakers like John Woo and Ringo Lam.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

The film is an atmospheric and complex thriller that, while not quite living up to its thematic ambitions, more than sustains interest along the way.

Erin gave it a9:
Just watched the dvd. I would say very good but given that this film was made for Nothing, it's outstanding.

Justin Z gave it a9:
A really interesting and different film but not for everyone.

Richard H. gave it a3:
Perhaps the worst film I have seen in a long time. Bad enough to prompt me to write my first "review". The acting is horrible, thin and dull. The score is abysmal. The photography amateurish and often from illogical angles. I initially turned the film off about 30 minutes in. I then gave it a second chance. It's often best to go with first instincts, especially so in this case. A must miss.

Mia gave it a10:
this is one of the best and most original movies i have seen in years. it is a testament to our times that this extraordinary film plays in limited release while recycled trash is at your local multiplex.

Antony gave it a10:
A brilliant and original movie. Peter Gevisser truly someone to watch.
