Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Favreau, who wrote "Swingers," has now directed and written the hilarious Made, which re-teams him with Vaughn. The two play off each other so well that they recall fond memories of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

Salon.com Stephanie Zacharek

Fans of "Swingers" may be disappointed. Made doesn't give us as many jazzy catchphrases to latch onto, or figuratively hoist us aloft on a giant martini glass of prolonged adolescence. But then that's precisely why it's the better movie.

LA Weekly Ella Taylor

Made may look like a Wong Kar-Wai movie -- the cinematographer, Chris Doyle, has brought to the film the dark, rich romanticism of the movies he's shot for the Hong Kong prodigy -- but the sensibility is Woody Allen, only sweeter.

Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman

Little more than a rambling chain of combative buddy mishaps, but the interplay between Vaughn and Favreau, who does great double takes of thrusting chin frustration, spins you through the weak patches.

Philadelphia Inquirer Steven Rea

Favreau and Vaughn have chemistry to kill: comic, combative and engagingly goofball.

75

Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

A peculiarly entertaining comedy, revisits the rapport that Favreau and Vaughn had in "Swingers" (1996), and rotates it into a deadpan crime comedy.

New York Post Jonathan Foreman

It's often hilarious, and there is lots of the zippy, apparently improvised dialogue that made "Swingers" such a pleasure.

San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle

Some of the dialogue in Made was improvised, and the comic invention at work here -- Vaughn's and Favreau's -- make Made into a rough gem.

Chicago Reader Lisa Alspector

Favreau, who also plays the long-suffering Bobby, mixes elements of drama into this appropriately annoying comedy.

Variety Joe Leydon

Fitfully amusing and two leads generate engaging chemistry.

The New York Times A.O. Scott

Though Mr. Favreau probably had to co-star in Made to make his exposé of the loser's mushy pink underbelly of "Swingers" register, he might have come up with a better picture if he had stayed behind the camera. But he's willing to take chances, and he'll learn from this movie.

Washington Post Rita Kempley

There are laughs -- lots of them, too -- but at some point the source of the laughs -- Vaughan's Ricky, a yammering loose cannon -- goes from entertaining to obnoxious.

Rolling Stone Peter Travers

Smash acting debut of Combs, who brings ease and charm to a crime lord.

Washington Post Desson Thomson

In the end, Made is a movie with better potential than actual results.

USA Today Mike Clark

The movie's success with viewers will depend on whether they think Vaughn is funny or tiresome.

New York Daily News Jami Bernard

None of the criminal skulduggery feels quite right, but the comic bits between Bobby (Favreau) and Ricky (Vaughn) are freewheeling fun.

Miami Herald Rene Rodriguez

Vaughn and Favreau are a dynamite pair, and there's enough give-and-take between them to satisfy any diehard "Swingers" fan.

Boston Globe Jay Carr

Amusing Made doesn't quite measure up to expectations.

New Times (L.A.) Bill Gallo

Picture the dopes from "Dumb and Dumber" getting mixed up in organized crime -- but without benefit of Jim Carrey's rubberized pratfalls or his go-to-hell anarchism.

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh

The film's a trifle, but a beautifully crafted one.

Chicago Tribune Mark Caro

The good news is that Vaughn is back in needling, loosey-goosey mode in Made, which he produced with Favreau. The bad news is that by the end, not only do you find him quite resistible, but you also may wish one of the tough guys of this mob comedy would heave him out a window.

50

Village Voice Jessica Winter

Handheld sprinting and swish-pans try to enliven the duo's shenanigans: undermotivated fisticuffs, fun with the nutty controls on their limousine (the roof slides open!), Vaughn's endless yapping.

Baltimore Sun Michael Sragow

Made is an amateur-hour buddy movie.

20

Austin Chronicle Marjorie Baumgarten

Totally in the distance is the memory of "Swingers," whose hipster goof has been replaced by a stupid goof. This may be what is meant by the “dumbing down of America.”

Dale C. gave it a 7:
Although the plot may lag a bit at times, the dialogue between Vaughn and Favreau has never been sharper. Hillarious! Puffy does a fine job as well. I loved seeing so many "Sopranos" cast members, too. I think the Entertainment Weekly review above hits the nail on the head.

Michael F. gave it an 8:
Hysterical! This is the second funniest movie of the summer ("Rush Hour 2"). This is a must-see as well as "Rush Hour 2."

Ryan M. gave it a 2:
It lacks everything "Swingers" had.

Lorrie L. gave it a 6:
This movie is a bit slow at times, but the dialogue keeps you interested. I thought Peter Falk was excellent!
