Summary

RATING: Not Rated

What would you do if America was invaded? Meeting Resistance raises the veil of anonymity surrounding the Iraqi insurgency by meeting face to face with individuals who are passionately engaged in the struggle, and documenting for the very first time, the sentiments experienced and actions taken by a nation's citizens when their homeland is occupied. Voices that have previously not been heard, male and female, speak candidly about their motivations, hopes and goals, revealing a kaleidoscope of human perspectives. Featuring reflective, yet fervent conversations with active insurgents, Meeting Resistance is the missing puzzle piece in understanding the Iraq war. (Nine Lives Documentary Productions)

Chicago Reader J.R. Jones

It provides a more detailed and perhaps more reliable picture of the early movement's motives and practices than anything I've seen in the mainstream media.

Village Voice Anthony Kaufman

Ultimately, Meeting Resistance is just one more doc about the monumental screw-up that is the U.S. campaign in Iraq.

New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman

Less a documentary than an unshaped document, this haphazard collection of interviews with Iraqi insurgents is both enlightening and frustrating.

Variety Ronnie Scheib

Proves a welcome addition to the growing body of films on Iraq, but ultimately promises more than it delivers.

Los Angeles Times Staff (Not credited)

Meeting Resistance in theory should have been a revealing documentary. In truth, however, the measures taken to protect the informants' identities dilute the potency of their statements and diminish the film's efficacy as a historical document.

Chicago Tribune Sid Smith

While no doubt a contribution in terms of historical record, the 2003-2004 timeline of the movie makes it feel out of date. This offers perspective on the insurgents then, but leaves the viewer wondering what they would be thinking and saying four years later.

The New York Times Matt Zoller Seitz

Many interviewees concede that the resistance is both disorganized and decentralized, and imply that some of the fighters are ethnic partisans jockeying for a slice of what will remain should the United States pull out.
