Summary

RATING: R for sequences of strong bloody gruesome violence, grisly images involving nudity, sexual content and language

Starring Bradley Cooper, Brooke Shields, Vinnie Jones, Leslie Bibb, Roger Bart, Peter Jacobson, and Barbara Eve Harris

When Leon Kaufman’s latest body of work – a collection of provocative, nighttime studies of the city and its inhabitants – earns the struggling photographer interest from prominent art gallerist Susan Hoff, she propels him to get grittier and show the darker side of humanity for his upcoming debut at her downtown art space. Believing he’s finally on track for success, Leon’s obsessive pursuit of dark subject matter leads him into the path of serial killer Mahogany, the subway murderer who stalks late-night commuters – ultimately butchering them in the most gruesome ways imaginable. With his concerned girlfriend Maya fearing for his life, Leon’s relentless fascination with Mahogany lures him further and further into the bowels of the subways and ultimately into an abyss of pure evil – inadvertently pulling Maya right along with him. Premiere Jenni Miller

It's equal parts shivery and silly -- eyeball popping in slo-mo!

LA Weekly Luke Y. Thompson

Director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) is a bit weak when it comes to storytelling, but there are few who could so enthusiastically stage a butcher fight amid hanging human carcasses in a subway car.

Variety Rob Nelson

Film isn't scary, per se, but it's mostly effective nonetheless, with Cooper capably steering his character from charming young artist to nervous wreck, evoking Ralph Fiennes' more unhinged turns along the way.

May not be grade-A prime, but it ain't chopped liver either.

Amie M gave it a7:
Probably the best horror film in a while. Some of the gore scenes are over the top but definitely original - unlike the majority of Saw type cash-ins. There were some scenes I couldn't watch but some fight scenes made me laugh.

Bob Metal gave it a1:
oK the name itself if the biggest turnoff i've ever seen... How did they decide the name, did they spin a wheel or something. don't even bother. It will make you not want to go on the subway at midnight ever again for no real reason...

Caleb C gave it a9:
the most disturbing and great horror film i have seen in a while.

K M gave it a10:
Makes for an awsome Gorefest collection. As a blood and guts horror film it is perfect, but as an overall I'd probably give it an 8

matt b gave it a9:
Excellent horror movie. Very different.

Carl F gave it a9:
This is a great horror/thriller and it's a shame this film didn't get a full release. Instead we get tripe like Saw 5 and that Valentines debacle... This film was fresh, and felt like a true Clive Barker classic. I hope this won't deter him from participating in future films, regardless of what Hollywood execs do like the morons at Lions Gate. So because this film was released more or less, straight to video, I give it higher marks. I highly recommend watching this film!

lyo f gave it an8:
Really great, one of the best adaptation of a Clive Barker's novel. Fun and scary, it's reminds me the Peter Jackson old gore movies.
