The Hollywood Reporter Kirk Honeycutt
Garcia has his moments as a wild man but the script never really allows him to plumb the artist's emotional depths.

The lushness of a Modigliani is largely absent from Modigliani.
Read Full Review >TV Guide Ken Fox
The real-life Modigliani did indeed live a short, tragic life, but this factually inaccurate, plodding film makes it feel twice as long.
Read Full Review >LA Weekly Kim Morgan
A tiresome, hammy and ultimately annoying portrait of the artist as a young drunk.

An Iranian comedian named Omad Djalili plays Picasso, that sexually combustible Spanish bull, with all the earth-shaking allure of, say, Andy Richter.

Sadly, instead of situating the l'amour fou in the artistic ferment of the period (1917-1920), Davis twists the period to fit the story.

The best and maybe the only use to be made of the catastrophic screen biography Modigliani is to serve as a textbook outline of how not to film the life of a legendary artist.

Frenchie Y. gave it a1:
Simply an insult to all poets, painters and lovers, a dull, overacted abortion!
Earl M. gave it a2:
Tiresome, poor representation of the artist's life--do not waste your time!
Lanique gave it a10:
Anything incredible gotta have a little repulse, otherwise it'll turn boring. For this particular case the movie stands alone, here a repulse would be the critics' reviews.
Nicola M. gave it a2:
Simply an atrocious movie, painful to watch. Woefully overacted, with more hams than a butcher shop. Picasso was played by Bud Abbot. Really a bad bad bad movie.
Stephanee H. gave it a9:
I feel the critics were very wronge! I felt it was a wonderful movie and great preformances that left me wanting for more.
Odessa F. gave it a10:
Great movie!!! Excellent performances by Andy Garcia and rest of the cast. This movie really captures the spirits of Paris around that time. A beautiful and tragic love story too! Don't miss it. It is now out on DVD.
Cristina O gave it a10:
Excellent movie! Deep penetreting into the artist's life and following, apparently, the real facts. I do not understand why the critics have been so bad. He had a miserable life and ONLY from this point of view the film looks miserable.
