Christian Science Monitor David Sterritt

Supercharged with an energy and ingenuity that "Run Lola Run" once had a patent on.

Chicago Tribune Louis R. Carlozo

As entertainment, Nicotina manages a bracing balance. It arrests with violent bursts and anxious pauses until its three plots merge in a satisfying resolution; its laughs caught in my throat like smoker's cough.

Chicago Reader J.R. Jones

The master principle of film noir -- that everyone is corruptible -- turns a pinwheel of plot complications in this fleet, stylish little crime drama from Mexico.

Washington Post Stephen Hunter

A gimmick film, but it's brought off with such verve it's great fun.

Los Angeles Times Carina Chocano

Nicotina's every loser, criminal, dreamer, crank and cynic is flawed, but their flaws are primal and as human as thumbs. In the end, it's this grim but tender view of humanity that gives the movie its appealing combination of mordant humor and cheerful pessimism.

Lightweight but enjoyable entertainment.

Boston Globe Janice Page

While obviously not a unique or uniquely satisfying experience, the film still does the job in a pinch, and looks cool doing it.

TV Guide Ken Fox

Though "Pulp Fiction" is the obvious point of reference, but this hugely entertaining Mexican crime comedy is actually closer in spirit to "Go," Doug Lyman's underrated 1998 lark.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer Sean Axmaker

The stylistic cleverness of the opening minutes settles into a self-satisfied flair.

Yields up plenty of opportunities for heated confrontations, wild and woolly dialogue and startling violence, which prove diverting in a shallow way.

Film Threat Bob Westal

It seems likely that how much you enjoy Nicotina will be tied to how much you enjoyed the Guy Ritchie pictures it strongly resembles. Those who thought “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch” were the cats p.j.'s will likely enjoy Nicotina.

The New York Times Dana Stevens

While it demonstrates some formal ingenuity, it is for the most part a tasteless and derivative stew of overdone jokes, chronological tricks and labored shock effects.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Nathan Rabin

Nicotina's lack of originality ultimately proves forgivable. Its glib, heartless nihilism doesn't.

Washington Post Desson Thomson

Nicotina skitters between dull and forced, this despite the use of split screens, jaunty music and the personable Luna.

Self-satisfied, incoherently busy farce.

Dallas Observer Robert Wilonsky

The only thing worse than second-generation Guy Ritchie is fourth-generation Quentin Tarantino, and this movie has the musty smell of 1995 all over it.

Juan S. gave it an 8:
This is yet another good movie from what seems to be a mexican cinema renaissance. although not as brilliant as y tu mama tambien anad amores perros, it still has a lot of qualities. the best thoing about it is the acting, specially diego luna, who plays a computer geek with an obssesive infatuation towards his neighbor. the camera work, and dialogue r inventive, quick and witty. although it is not very deep and thought provoking, it nevertheless a lot of fun.
