Starring Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Zohra Sehgal

Saawariya is a timeless story of two young, star-crossed lovers whose passions almost consume their will to the brink of self-destruction. In this eternal ode to romance stand two lonely souls whose childlike innocence and candor only obscures their inner turmoil, anger, anxiety, and desperate longing for love. An artist, free spirit, idealist, and dreamer, Raj is certain that he has found his ultimate dream when he arrives in a quaint, picturesque town. It's a place surrounded by mountains, shrouded in mist, and enveloped in beauty, mythical enough to be a painter's vision or a poet's memory. However, destiny paints a different picture for Raj. One silent bright and starry night, he spots a mysterious girl draped in black, standing alone at a bridge. This chance encounter introduces him to Sakina, a shy and quiet, melancholic and enigmatic girl who intrigues him. Thus follows the beginning of a new friendship, where Raj with his most-charming ways and an undying spirit tries to win Sakina's heart. Raj is unable to accept her haunting past, and their friendship pulls him into a whirlwind of desire, madness, and romance. (Sony)

The New York Times A.O. Scott

The experience is visually enchanting, cloyingly sweet, at once utterly chaste and insanely erotic, and finally exhausting. Aficionados will not settle for less.

Variety Derek Elley

A really small movie done up in a big, moody package, Saawariya entices, fitfully springs to life but finally outstays its welcome by a good half-hour.

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh

The first full-fledged Indian musical coproduced and distributed by a major Hollywood studio, this fanciful love story takes its unlikely inspiration from Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story "White Nights."

How can it be that a movie as beautiful to look at as Saawariya is so . . . boring?

Arpit S gave it a10:
Best SLB movie till date.. Its ridiculous how Om Shanti Om won accolades(commercially). I think that this movie wasn't meant for a diwali release, had this been released at some other time, it would have been a major hit. But today is an era of Shah Rukh Khan. Anyways if you're in love, if you had loved someone or if you're willing to love someone, this movie is for you.. don't miss it!!

Jay H. gave it a5:
A beautiful and stylish film, lovingly made but also extremely overlong with way too many slow and boring parts. It doesn't flow well and it prompts you to look at your watch way too much.

Priyanth T. gave it a3:
It is boring compared to the original tamil version. the sets are good lookin and the songs arent that good. This is nothin compared to om shanti om.

Diwakar B. gave it a9:
A class movie with good picturization and cool sets. ITs a must watch movie.

R K. gave it a5:
Hard to believe this movie was directed by SLB. I guess my expectations were higher. It has the look of a musical on broadway, not a Bollywood movie. It's extremely dull, same old repetitive dialogues from other love stories, no character development, the only slightly redeeming aspect is the soundtrack - it's decent. I realize the director was trying to go for the Moulin Rouge appeal but it was poorly done. The story doesn't elicit any emotions from the audience, good or bad. The last thing you want your audience to feel is indifferent and that's how it leaves you feeling. Do not waste your money on this. I gave it a 5 for visual appeal and Rani Mukherjee's acting.

sanjay a. gave it an8:
Loved the movie. Its getting bad reviews compared to Om Shanti Om which is ridiculous. Have seen both movies and this one is truly better. If you have even been in love, you will understand the emotions and appreciate the movie.
