Chicago Reader Lisa Alspector
Dark fantasy triumphs in this gorgeously animated surrealist adventure.
Read Full Review >New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman
Beautiful, witty and provocative, this is one genre film that ought to appeal to fans and non-fans alike.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Chronicle Edward Guthmann
The animation is rich and densely detailed, the characters well defined.
Read Full Review >Philadelphia Inquirer Steven Rea
A genre pastiche that's fun to watch, although it's also frustrating.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Desson Thomson
If you appreciate fine animation and edgy material, this blood's for you.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov
As usual with anime features, just because it's animated doesn't mean it's for kids; heads roll and blood spurts, so know that going in, mom and dad. For the older crowd, though, it's gory and gorgeous bliss.
Read Full Review >Portland Oregonian Kim Morgan
Exciting, gory, funny and, like much of anime, a bit cheesy.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Dave Kehr
Handsome, well-executed film that nonetheless feels a bit long at 111 minutes. Those who are already anime fans will certainly find it stimulating; but this may not be the one to convert the uninitiated.
Read Full Review >New Times (L.A.) Luke Y. Thompson
Doesn't quite scale the heights it could and should, often because of its inappropriate humor, which could be blamed on cultural mistranslation.
Read Full Review >New York Post V.A. Musetto
The film looks nifty, but the flat and unemotional English-language dialogue lessens its impact.
Read Full Review >Baltimore Sun Chris Kaltenbach
Fans of anime probably will find Vampire Hunter D plenty thrilling. Non-fans, or those not familiar with the genre, will enjoy the film's gothic atmosphere, but may wonder what all the fuss is about.
TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
It's a must-see for horror buffs and anime fans; and while it lacks the haunting thematic underpinnings of "Blood The Last Vampire," -- it's a more satisfying movie-going experience.
Read Full Review >Los Angeles Times Charles Solomon
A baroque, bloody fantasy-adventure that stubbornly remains less than the sum of its parts.

Alexis M. gave it a 10:
This movie should be in the dictionary as a description for the word "BEST" because it is absolutely mindblowingly undescribably the best movie EVER made. Cult status easily achieved. Simply brilliant.
Sean G. gave it a 10:
The art was beautiful, the story was well written, and the characters were very enjoyable to watch. A must for fans and non fans. One of my favorite movies.
Brk S. gave it a 10:
Fantastic anime.
Marc W. gave it a 10:
Simply amazing. The First VHD was excellent despite of its story line was hard to follow the first time through. But Bloodlust has a great and easy to follow story, not to mention the wonderfully drawn characters.
Phatty M. gave it a 9:
I am a big fan of the first VHD movie. However, it didn't make much sense. This one, however, appealed to everyone I know, even the "Anti-Anime" people around here.
Blair B. gave it a 10:
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is the "Lord Of The Rings" of Japanese animation.
Adam B. gave it a 10:
This movie is awesome, the highly detailed animation, the sophistication of the story and the surprises! It's great.
