The Onion (A.V. Club) Noel Murray

Yonkers Joe is largely concerned with the delicate balance between a crook's business life and his personal life--a balance the movie itself has trouble managing effectively.

An extremely awkward cross between "Ocean's Eleven" and "Rain Man."

The New York Times Stephen Holden

For all its attention to detail, Yonkers Joe isn't half as tough as it pretends to be. The real story of these bottom-feeders and the sad young man they exploit is a lot uglier than the movie even begins to let on.

San Francisco Chronicle Peter Stack

Yonkers Joe is incoherent, succeeding neither as an exciting gambling ride nor a touching family story.

Jay H gave it a5:
Well meaning but I just never found it very engrossing. The acting is fine but no one is a stand out. It seemed longer than it's actual length. I just never cared much for any of the characters. Tom Guiry's performance doesn't ring true.
