Entertainment Weekly Scott Brown
It's all the thrill of watching other people play Uno.

The appeal of Yu-Gi-Oh! for kids who play the card game shouldn't be too much of a mystery -- at least to any adult who admits to tuning in to celebrity poker on TV.
Read Full Review >New York Daily News Elizabeth Weitzman
Too solemnly boring to entertain parents or older siblings - but, alas, too loud for a long nap - Yu-Gi-Oh! is basically a feature-length promotion for the trading cards.
Read Full Review >The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Liam Lacey
A vigorously cross-marketed product, with comics, collectable cards, games and a television series.
Read Full Review >Variety Robert Koehler
No cuddly, funky "Pokemon" pocket monsters populate this pic; this game is for the big kids, rife with a ruthless tone, heightened violence and cold calculation. However, fans will put up with a dull tale to finally see their obsession on the bigscreen.
Read Full Review >Chicago Reader Andrea Gronvall
Like the gods, the trading cards are capricious, with ever-changing rules and strategies so intricate that only Yu-Gi-Oh-ologists will fully enjoy this adventure.
Read Full Review >Boston Globe Louise Kennedy
With its lifeless animation, characterless characters, and plotless plot, Yu-Gi-Oh! is so flat as to make the card game on which it is based seem positively three-dimensional.
Read Full Review >San Francisco Chronicle Peter Hartlaub
With no subtitles to explain what's going on in Yu-Gi- Oh!: The Movie, there's no reason for adults to come anywhere near it.
Read Full Review >Empire Helen O'Hara
No doubt its small fans are thrilled, but even young kids will have to be pretty undemanding to enjoy this mess.

If your child forces you to go to Yu-Gi-Oh!, remember that there's no law against iPods in movie theaters.
Read Full Review >Washington Post Sara Gebhardt
There's nothing inspiring about Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie, unless you count the way it compels kids to continue to support the "Yu-Gi-Oh" franchise.
Read Full Review >The Onion (A.V. Club) Tasha Robinson
Impossibly dull form of niche-marketed entertainment.
Read Full Review >The New York Times Dave Kehr
The character designs are flat and derivative, the backgrounds crude and uninviting, and the movements jerky and minimal. It's a sad excuse for a movie, but then, it isn't really meant to be one. It's a commercial with a ticket price.
Read Full Review >The Hollywood Reporter Michael Rechtshaffen
Has the crass look and feel of a 90-minute infomercial.
Read Full Review >Austin Chronicle Kimberley Jones
Its a lot like hearing the play-by-play account of a heated game of bridge. Only not half as gripping.
Read Full Review >Portland Oregonian M. E. Russell
A shabby, joyless, 90-minute slab of "advertainment."

Jake gave it an8:
I think that this movie is underrated. I liked it because its plot made sense and, for Pete's sake, when it came out you got free rare cards! Anyway, I liked it. But I also liked the Mario movie, and since they were both flops... I have odd interests. But I digress. This movie is all right, but not the best thing that I've seen.
Giles G. gave it a10:
Its so awesome how they break the rules they're such gangsters. They're just like " Lets play Blue Eyes" but they can't so they throw the rules right out the window and that's EPICNESSSS!!! Who cares If Yu-Gi has the stupidest hair ever, that just makes this movie more gangster.
Why Not? gave it a1:
Okay, let me get one thing straight. Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie sucks. Now, let me get to the positives. While it is true that the movie is basically a one-and-a-half-hour advertisement, there is a bit more action that you would expect from the series -- although that isn't saying much, like if you had said one snake was a lot better because you would die in 45 minutes instead of 30 if it bit you. ...Okay, I don't have much more on the positive side. For negatives, it's the same old Yu-Gi-Oh! crap that we've come to begrudgingly love. The voices, for the most part, suck due to 4Kids being a good anime's worst enemy -- and you can quote me on that -- and the plot is extremely confusing. Shouldn't this just be about adults playing a children's card game? Even a promo card or four received from watching it isn't really worth it, once you realize that most Duel Monsters cards are worth crap now. If you want good Yu-Gi-Oh! action, I recommend buying one of the video games -- they are surprisingly good. Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie gets 8 plot twists out of 100.
Mark K. gave it a4:
Manages to be just as bad as the anime itself.
Austin k gave it a6:
Only can be properly rated by one who knows the game. if only they took the path that Pokemon took by screwing the battles and getting right down to a decent storyline.
Kent C. gave it a3:
The greatest movie about monster-based card games, kids with BIG hair, drawn out card battles, and dramatic monster card based action ever made. Seriously, it's that amazing. I mean, where else can you watch animated kids who look like they should be 30 shout out dramatic lines and literally dictate every card-based move that they do? Also, listen for the On The Waterfront reference, trust me you'll know it when you'll hear it.
Luke S. gave it a0:
No animation, no plot, and the dueling stuff made no sense whatsoever.
