Whereas in 3D Super Hang-On, on one hand there was great controls that made the 3D effect useless and on the other there was an excellent 3D effect that couldn't be used in conjunction with the gyro-sensor controls, here all of its great additions can be used combined together without any restrictions.

Of all the versions available of the arcade classic from Yu Suzuki, this 3D Space Harrier is what best suits the spirit and achievements of the original.

Even the staunchest of Sega fans will admit that Space Harrier has never been the deepest of experiences, and this 3DS iteration does little to change that.
  4. A fun, but ultimately rather shallow package. [Feb 2014, p.90]

As with any regular 1980s arcade game, Space Harrier 3D's longevity derives from the circumstances of the coin-op machines it comes from, leading to a very small long-term appeal. Technically it respects the original work, although the 3rd dimension makes very little difference in this promised 3D re-edition. This is one game to be kept in mind by those looking for a typical 1980s-style arcade shooter.

That fact ALONE blew me away. Even though it is a simplistic, on-rails shooter, it's still a very special experience, and well worth the price, even if mainly for its nostalgic value, but also for the many extra options. The SEGA 3D Classics series is the single best buy on the 3DS eShop, and for VERY good reason. Full Review »
