  • Summary: In Fractured Soul 3D, players take on the role of interplanetary rogue, Jake DeSaul a man with a checkered and mysterious past who must confront his demons in his desperate plight to escape an eerie and malevolent space station. As they progress through each level, the boundaries between dream and reality continue to blur as Jake faces a lifetime of regrets, hopes, dreams, and what might have been in his efforts to reconcile himself with his past.

In order to help Jake, players must blast their way through 20 exciting and brain bending platform levels spread across five distinct worlds - each offering a unique challenge including inverted gravity, damage, wind, ice, and underwater. Additionally, there are four shoot 'em up levels that also make use of the screen switching. Each level is timed and ranked to encourage replayability.

It's a game that naturally intersects action platforming with lateral thinking, never splurging on one over the other. Fractured Soul's dual-dimension gameplay, combined with its speed run-focused online leaderboards and forgiving checkpoint system, showcase it as one of the finest 3DS games among both retail and online titles.

All in all, Fractured Soul is a really well-crafted and polished game that manages to do justice to both side-scrolling action platforming and shooting. Anyone who loves the Mega Man series will love it, and I'm sure shooter fans will as well.

A clever, fun, and challenging Nintendo 3DS game well worth your time.

The relentless difficulty level hides some potential for frustration. But nonetheless the handling is surprisingly simple, the level design is interesting.
  5. Jan 14, 2013
If only Endgame Studios opted for a level of difficulty a bit less prohibitive, Fractured Soul could find a much wider audience.
  6. Jan 25, 2013
It's a frustrating game, with a structure that definitely lacks balance: however, Fractured Soul is indeed going to appeal to those hardcore gamers looking for a true challenge.

Maybe there's a great game beyond level 8. Maybe it turns into peaches and honey. Maybe a magical unicorn bursts from the screen. Who knows? After playing a single level beyond any possibility of ever getting any enjoyment from it again, I turned the game off and walked away. Gameplay masochism only stays enjoyable so long before a feeling best described as "screw this!" sets in, and Fractured Soul blew past that point and never looked back.

This game is one tough game to beat. So don't buy this game if you get frustrated when you lose. This game is for pros. One thing why this game is for pros is because you have to look up and down most of the time. Then there are also lots of enemies and hard places to pass. If you played the older version of fractured soul you can see that the 3ds version is redesigned and looks better. This new version has some new features through. One new feature is the leaderboards. This is to show how fast they can beat this selected level. Also, if you want some more challenge, try the bonus levels. You can get them by getting lots of stars. Getting a 5 star is really tough. It's even more harder than playing the game without it! There are only 3 bosses in this game. If you want a challenge then this is a game you should play. Expand

If you like challenges and are a masochist, this game is for you. Very well designed, but I haven't put a lot of time into it due to the fact that its insanely difficult. Expand
