Okay, this is a harvest moon game. If you are familiar to these games it's much of the same(which isn't a bad thing). The problem with this game is poor programming. If you choose to own more of a farm than a ranch, once you grow too many crops you LAG and the game FREEZES on the screen with said crops. This made me very annoyed, because that is what part of this game is, a farming simulator. Now the farming is gone. If you went with a more Ranch style, then you're met with random freezes crossing the mountain. Besides the dreadful programming errors, there is a lot of flaws with the game's design. The most annoying would be the weekly cooking festivals, they are most boring thing to watch, and it's a shame, because it's the goal of the game to attend this terrible festival so the two towns who are split between way to many loading screens to become friends. If you really want to play this game, get the DS version, as it does NOT have the bugs. I'd suggest just skipping this one completely though, try one of the many other, WORKING, Harvest Moon or Rune Factory titles. Expand

There are few redeeming factors of this game. The only positive thing I can say about this game is it's a okay Harvest Moon game when it isn't crashing or suffering from horrible framerate issues. The characters are fairly interesting I suppose and the new trench system is nice. In terms of bad things not associated with poor programming, I have a few thoughts. First, the save system is godawful. You cannot save unless you sleep as you have a "save and sleep" option. There's no notebook, journal, diary, etc. Combined with the instability of the product, this is a bit of a nightmare at times as you can lose a whole days worth of work to the game freezing. The towns feel dead. I have no idea why Marvelous decided to split the towns. It's a pain in the ass to have to go from one town to another just to grab a request from that board, to talk or to buy something. In terms of stability, the game constantly freezes and I lag when going to new areas in the mountains. While around large numbers of crops, you also lag. All in all, if you want to play this game, buy the DS version instead of this buggy mess. A better suggestion would be to grab Rune Factory Tides on the PS3 or Wii. You'll be happier with whichever of these options you choose. Expand

Ive always loved the harvest moon series and this was just a huge disappointment for me. First of all the landscapes are very pretty and nice, however the game is very tedious and boring at points, for you constantly have to be picking up repetitive items for the whole game way and come back with a little money out of it. There are also a few glitches I have encountered, one of them is whenever I go to a certain game area my game froze and I had to reboot my whole 3ds, and a few cooking glitches where a certain food item was required and it kept coming out as a failed dish. In the original harvest moon cute 3ds game it was repetitive and fun, but tale of two towns its repetitive and not fun. The farm space you receive in the beginning is way too small, and in the originals you had this huge field in the back of your house, and you really needed that to make money and grow crops. My last reason this was a disappointment was the plot, it was just really unlikeable and the fact that whenever the time says its getting late out, its still light in-game, so I could be collecting items while its 2 am. Honestly I think this game was just very disappointing and the item system was not well made. Expand

After playing Animal parade I was turned into a fan so I was really excited for this game and didn't even read any reviews and just pick the game up straight away. However I was so disappointed. Compare to the previous edition, this one lacked content. There wasn't an interesting story line and main aim of the game was lame and overall, a lack of things to do. The only good side of this is the graphics. The mountain area looks very pretty. Expand

Maybe it's just me but I just couldn't get into this game, although it seems right up my alley. The graphics do not take advantage of any of the 3DS' positives it is a straight port from the DS version of the game it seems. The constant long winded conversations with other characters that you can't skip doesn't help this game either. Just not engaging or inviting as a cute game world which other Harvest Moon games have been. Expand

A more structured setup does as much to bring a new audience as alienate fans. [Nov 2012, p.80]

Even though Marvelous relies heavy on recycling once again, The Tale of Two Towns entertained me more than its' predecessors.
  3. Too many gimmicks spoil the broth; only the dedicated will reap any rewards. [Sept 2012, p.103]
