There really should be a full ten decathlon events in the game; seven leaves you feeling hungry for more variety.
  2. After a while, your thumbs and hands get tired along with your patience.
  3. Rent it out along with a six-pack and some mates some time, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
  4. There is definitely a good foundation here but with average graphics, mediocre gameplay and a lack of depth this title stays behind the pack.
  5. The included events -- Long Jump, High Jump, 110M Hurdles, 100M Dash, Shot Put, Javelin Throw and 1500M Run -- all involve the same control scheme. Each is equally frustrating.
  6. Its weak event lineup will leave it in a prime spot to be overcome once "International Track and Field" enters the competition.
  7. Short, and I mean really short gameplay. With only seven events, the party's over before it even gets started.
  8. Unfortunately, the experience is horribly marred by a complete lack of replay value, which makes Virtua Athlete almost too short to qualify even as a rental.

Beyond an hour's playing it looks grim.
  10. At it's heart the gameplay of Virtua Athlete is really nothing more than a series of button timings.
  11. Just too limited in its scope for the long haul. What is here is certainly enjoyable.
  12. While the visuals are decent, Virtua Athlete 2000 is little more than a rehashed version of "Decathlete" for the Saturn, with little replay value, originality, or depth.
  13. You can quite easily play through the entire game in under 10 minutes.
