The new additions on the DS blend in seamlessly with the original game and the end result is fantastic.
  2. Just take it as read that you shouldn't buy this game if you're not going to play it with friends, and assume that the verdict is based on those who will be making their pals go pop on a regular basis.
  3. Bomberman at his best. The classic 2D design keeps the game simple and perfectly suited to D-pad controls, and the touch screen allows for quick access to power-up items and lets you navigate the setup menus much more quickly than button presses.
  4. The formula still works just fine, and with support for eight players using only one copy of the game, this is a fine choice for anyone interested in a strong multiplayer game.

The wireless multiplayer does make up for the weak-sauce solitaire option; the fantastic bomb-battle gameplay is completely retained in this design, only requiring a single cartridge for a group of eight local systems. Tons of options, settings, and arenas are available for the multiplayer fanatic.

Another benefit of the DS is the two screens that allow up to eight people to play, and only one player needs the actual game for all to join in. Multiplayer is where Bomberman has always delivered, and the DS version is probably the most engaging yet.
  7. 80
As a multiplayer game, Bomberman is more than worth its price tag. However, as a single-player game, this one comes dangerously close to being a bomb.
  8. 80
For fans of the previous Bomberman games, the DS version is easily one of the best in the franchise.
  9. While its single-player is a little shady, this is certainly an explosion worth investigating.
  10. There's never a time when you wont want to pick this up and give it a buzz. Genuine good fun.
  11. It's exactly what you'd expect but DS makes it classic multiplayer stuff. [GamesMaster]

As a multiplayer game, Bomberman for DS is excellent. [Aug 2005, p.57]
  13. I'm going to be frank: Bomberman DS is the best multiplayer Bomberman game ever. With so many different game modes, options, items, and arenas, there's enough variety that the game never gets old.
  14. 80
The presentation is simple and minimalist, so while it won’t blow you away, it allows you to focus entirely on the intense multiplayer action.
  15. If there was a criticism of Bomberman to be made, it's that aside from little tweaks -- a few new powerups here, or a multi-screen layout there -- nothing much has changed in the Bomber world since he made his NES debut many, many years ago.
  16. Aside from the boss battles, not one of those stages offers any kind of depth or variety; 10-year-old Bomberman games were more interesting. Multiplayer, however, delivers.
  17. Bomberman may be more of the same, but when it has always been fun this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  18. 75
A more generous perspective would say it's more of the classic Bomberman multiplayer we've all come to know and love. It's the comfort food of videogames, and if that's enough for you, this is more than sufficient as an 8-player hold-me-over.
  19. This game doesn't really take advantage of the DS's cool touch-screen technology... Still, Bomberman is a blast.
  20. 80
All of these components have been combined to produce a game that exudes fun.
