All the key elements of the game are present on this remake. The graphics look quite detailed and colored new backgrounds have been introduced to make it look alive. A new Continue option, unlocked by mini games completion, will welcome the new players. The game itself remains as addictive as it’s always been and it’s an excellent choice if you like this genre. It's a very uncreative sequel with restrictive multiplayer. The core mechanics are still fun in short spurts, but this follow-up misses a huge opportunity to revitalize a classic design.
Once the game gets past the simple early stages the fast-paced action can be very hard to follow. Combining the different colored bubbles never seemed to work right and I was always running into enemies when I thought I hit them with a bubble.
A mediocre entry in the Bub and Bob saga, too irritating to ever be absorbing, and missing the sparkle of the mighty original. Some nice ideas meet the frustration of poor level design. [Apr 2007, p.56]
My final thought on Bubble Bobble Double Shot is that it is not worth the investment. It's not really that fun.
Although Double Shot won't necessarily disappoint fans of the series, and vintage games generally, it's an extraordinarily lazy sequel that trades on the moderate success of a 20-year-old arcade game.

Summary The second Bubble Bobble action game for NDS brings back the core of the original series, and a third playable character Bubu is added to the mix. There are also mini games which require the use of stylus as well as the addition of color-coded enemies.
