  • Summary: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Nintendo DS delivers an arsenal of modern weaponry, arming gamers with precision controls and touch screen capabilities for battle across the world's most dangerous hotspots. In an unfolding story that parallels the epic, high-octane PC and next generation console Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the Nintendo DS title enlists players as U.S. and coalition forces against a rogue enemy, where the action rages from land to the skies in all-out combat that threatens the world. Nintendo DS Touch Screen and Stylus – Intuitive stylus-based movement controls allows unique ways to construct explosive devices, disarm traps, and perform hand-to-hand combat. Diversity of Gameplay – Delivering a variety of combat, the title takes players from the soldier to the satellite with multiple scenarios. Gamers will experience mobilization as they fast-rope from tactical helicopters, engage hostile forces from an aerial gunship, and experience the ferocity of building to building fighting. Instant Action – Featuring the signature Call of Duty epic combat and intensity, the Nintendo DS title delivers an Instant Action mode allowing players to quickly access previously completed missions. Multiplayer Support – Leveraging wireless local area network (WLAN) for ad-hoc connectivity, up to four players quickly ease into the visceral action of modern warfare combat. [Activision] Expand

  1. The game’s biggest strength is in how well it establishes the tone and feeling of the console CoD4 games. The fast pace, mission structure, and gameplay are all distinctly Call of Duty, and everything performs beautifully.
  2. Call of Duty 4 manages to bring the frenetic, highly scripted gunfights of its big siblings to the Nintendo DS. It’s definitely one of the handheld’s best shooters, although it would have arguably been the best with the inclusion of online multiplayer.
  3. It's not epic, but this is largely successful at bringing CoD to the DS. [Jan 2008, p.76]
  4. An excellent, if slightly flawed FPS. Ignore the quirks and you'll find yourself totally absorbed in the action. [Issue#19, p.84]
  5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfareon the NDS is a title that will forever stand in the shadow of its current-gen siblings, but it manages to be an enjoyable experience in its own right. Shamefully, it bursts at the seams with unfulfilled potential, but maybe future sequels will rectify that.
  6. On the DS, Call of Duty 4 is an intense first-person-shooter that's knocked down a few pegs by the lack of online play.
  7. Some of the game’s flaws can be overlooked but the checkpoint weapon bug is inexcusable and the nearly complete lack of enemy AI is essentially the equivalent of taking Doom’s enemies and making them forget to move forward.

As MusicJJJ said, "Modern Warfare" DS is pretty difficult at first, but you'll get use to it after a while.

Meh. I though this was just average. Ive seen cooler shooters on GBA. Seeing graphics that looked straight out of Half Life (not 2, the first game) and a bit like Morrowind disappointed me. The controls are extremely annoying. I swear I reckon I've seen better shooters on the GBA truly.

I barely made it through the start bit before I just put my DS down and said to hell with it.
