What it lacks in sophistication it manages to make up for in being longer and more difficult, which should be more than enough to please ardent fans, if not more casual RPG enthusiasts.

If you weren't swayed by its predecessors, then move along, but for everyone else, this is another standout entry in a series that stubbornly yet successfully stands by its trusted traditions that makes the series a continued classic across the world.
  3. May 19, 2011
Releasing it after the more advanced Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies may not have been the wisest of moves, as fans of the latest entry in the series might not stand for the more retro look of Dragon Quest VI. However, those ready to look past that are certain to find a compelling and well-developed story by the series' standards, and lots of fun moments, all packed into one of the best RPG experiences to grace the now aging Nintendo DS.
  4. Feb 24, 2011
This classic RPG has finally come to North America and will keep fans of the series and newcomers happy and busy for some time as they travel the Realms of Revelation.
  5. Feb 23, 2011
Newcomers to the series might want to start their Dragon Quest experience with IV, V, or IX but for fans or those who are looking for more Zenethian adventures, Realms of Revelation is a lengthy addition to the DS's Dragon Quest lineup.
  6. May 31, 2011
Considering the overall quality of the adventure, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation proves to be an essential purchase for any fan of the genre. It surely won't disappoint you.

DQ VI is a classic that deserves attention from the lovers of the genre.
  8. Jun 14, 2011
This last DQ remake for Nintendo DS is, as the first two other chapters, an impressive conversion of an old time classic.
  9. Feb 9, 2011
Surprisingly, I found myself enjoying DQ VI more than its technically superior descendant. Maybe it's easier to forgive dusty design choices knowing that this was originally a 16-bit game, or maybe it's because DQ VI embraces the mile-a-minute imagination and sense of adventure that made me fall in love with RPGs as a kid.
  10. Mar 7, 2011
Dragon Quest VI is another great title in this series that still manages to hold intrigue and charm amongst hardcore and casual RPG fans.
  11. Jun 6, 2011
16 years later, Dragon Quest VI finally gets released in our countries, as a portable remake with two screens and a beautiful 3D graphics overhaul. The game itself didn't change, which will please the purists but may also frighten the beginners... A lack of clear directions throughout the game, a crual save system and an impressive length can be daunting nowadays. Apart from that, the game is epic and it will delight all fans of J-RPG who likes gigantic maps, side quests and the challenge that may represent a class system somewhat "hostile. " Beginners are advised to start with Dragon Quest V, which is shorter and less dificult, before moving up to DQ6.
  12. Mar 8, 2011
If you have already had your fill of the fourth and fifth chapters and are still clamoring for more nostalgic level grinding, then this will fill that void. Just don't come in expecting a shining example of what the genre had available at the time.

As accessible as a Romanian arthouse film festival, but learn the lingo and find hours of fun. [Aug 2011, p.92]
  15. Mar 14, 2011
Absorbing gameplay and an epic plot make this Dragon Quest remake worth the wait.
  16. Feb 16, 2011
There really isn't anything to wrong with the game other than it feeling more old than old school on occasion.
  17. Feb 14, 2011
The DS has been good to RPG fans over the years, so it's somewhat poetic that Dragon Quest VI sees the system off into the sunset. It's a game that lets veterans reminisce over days gone by, while allowing newcomers to revel in a golden era they may have otherwise never known.
  18. Mar 21, 2011
Dragon Quest VI is a good role playing video game, strongly attached to classic genre conventions like round based fights and a free choose able talent tree. But we've already seen this in 1995.
  19. May 31, 2011
In conclusion, Dragon Quest VI is pure Japanese RPG and harkens back to a simpler time of exploration, turn-based combat and characters that sometimes never stop talking... err... texting. The problem with Dragon Quest VI is that it doesn't offer the player anything new in terms of new gameplay which is like playing a similar game of this genre 5 or 10 years ago. However there is something endearing about this title that offers both relaxation and excitement. Even though I've seen it all before, there was something inside me that wanted me to keep playing due to the combat, class customisation, discoveries and to an extent the story.
  20. Feb 18, 2011
It's not a bad game, but it's certainly not a friendly game -- something that you'd notice even if you weren't coming off of Dragon Quest IX, and something that is only exacerbated for those who are.

Outstanding Japanese RPG thrills with story and combat system and offers tens of hours of pure adventure entertainment. [Issue#207]
  22. Jun 17, 2011
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation is one of the best entries in the franchise but nowadays it's easy to notice how old some of its core features are if compared to the most recent installments of the Dragon Quest saga itself.

This is the Dragon Quest that we know and love. [Apr 2011, p.54]
  24. Feb 20, 2011
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation might not be as flashy or intricate as Dragon Quest IX was, but that certainly doesn't keep the game from being every bit as charming and engaging.

If Dragon Quest VI had been promptly localized into English after its 1995 release, it might have won a treasured place in the hearts of Super NES owners. [March 2011, p.89]

    The core game remains enjoyable.
  27. Jun 13, 2011
Some of the original game's grandeur and visual impact may have been lost in its transition to the small screen, but much of the original charm remains. The story is engaging and you're guaranteed many, many hours of playing time.
  28. DQIX is tighter, but this is still an epic 40-plus hours of classic RPG gaming.
  29. Jun 14, 2011
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie wraps up the 'Nintendo DS remake trilogy' by being the best one yet. Absolutely anyone will enjoy this top-quality role-playing game, so go and experience this 'proper' Japanese RPG for yourself.

Realms of Revelation finishes the Zenithian trilogy nicely. While it is not as good as Sentinels of the Starry Skies or hand of the Heavenly Bride, it is a very entertaining and the dreamlike atmosphere captures the imagination. [June 2011]
  31. Jul 7, 2011
If you're a Dragon Quest fan, you'll pick this up regardless of my review, especially if you've never played the game in any other form before. If you're new to the series, start with IV, as it is a far superior game in terms of storytelling and overall enjoyment. Bottom Line: you won't find anything new in Realms of Revelation, but hey, that's Dragon Quest.
  32. Mar 29, 2011
It's a great Dragon Quest experience, bestowed with a great combat system and a good lasting appeal. A better save system and some less combat could've made it perfect.
  33. May 27, 2011
Dragon Quest VI is exactly what it promised to be: a return to the classic JRPG, one of the best of its genre, which remains faithful to the series' formula. It is its greatest charm, but also the greatest difficulty to attract new followers.
  34. Feb 28, 2011
If you've already finished the previous games and are hankering for more Dragon Quest, there's a lot to like here. The characters are funny, the translation is top-notch, and the combat system easy to learn.

If you played the other 2 games in the DS re-make trilogy this may be a little old-school but if you are wating for the next Final Fantasy (13-2) this will be a great game to pick up. Even if you are currently playing a Larger RPG Such as ones on the Latest Steam Sales this will be a great on the go game I am about 5 hours into my latest playthrough and I am not even 10% into the game yet. 10/10 Full Review »
