  • Summary: Those who have spent much time with action RPGs in the mold of Secret of Mana should find the gameplay in From the Abyss at least somewhat familiar. You choose from among a selection of class-based characters and venture into a world of randomized levels and real-time combat. A top-down angle gives you a view of the 16-bit-era visuals, which look nice alongside some of the more elaborate spell effects. [GameSpot] Expand

It's got lots of dungeons to explore, tons of items to equip, and some pretty cool boss fights. It missed a good opportunity by not letting you progress through the story in co-op mode, but it's still a fun single-player experience.

Despite the faults, From the Abyss is a solid dungeon crawler. It does what it does well for the genre, and it is very easy to pick up and play. In the long run however, it's not going to be memorable game.
  3. Sad to say, From the Abyss is an extremely unremarkable game through-and-through. From the visual style and plot to the game mechanics, it's all been done before in some form or another. The good news in all of this is the game still offers a good time for fans of the genre.
  4. Ultimately, From the Abyss won't enter history for having set any milestone within the console portfolio, because although it has a good presentation, its concept can result repetitive for players expecting a good blend between action and story. This is a title devoted only to dungeon brawling, with hours and hours of killing and lots of levels to explore.
  5. It's not that From the Abyss is a bad game. It's just that it doesn't do anything interesting or innovative.
  6. There aren't enough carrots dangled under your nose to keep you crawling through the monotony of randomly generated dungeons, and the text-based.
  7. 30
With unbalanced gameplay, recycled graphics, limited content, and almost no replay value, From The Abyss a disappointment and should be sent back into the abyss where it came from.
