70Sure, this is a button-bashing fist-fest with a gimmick that you may or may not appreciate, but if you're a fan of the show, then Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie & the Amp is worth picking up.
-
A tad repetitious but always extra caffienated. [Aug 2006, p.65]
-
Don't come into Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp expecting too much, and you'll be satisfied with what you get – a fun, short brawling romp that is reasonably well-suited to portable play.
-
61Genie & the Amp makes good use of the DS touch screen, but it’s still something that could have been done via the buttons instead of the touch screen. The graphics do a good job of bringing the show’s ambience to the small screen and the music is right on the money.
-
A brawler with good ideas looking for a slightly forgiving player to see the potential in there.
-
60There's good work here, on the graphics, the soundtrack, the interface, and even the combat system, for all that it doesn't work out in the long run.
-
Random button pressing will get you farther than most attempts at strategy, and getting locked into long combo animations is a "feature" that makes me just want to die. [Sept. 2006, p.100]
-
Unfortunately, not even cupid's arrow can reconcile my disdain for the DS side-scrolling brawler that bears the name of the object of my affection. [Aug 2006, p.87]
-
35The game sounds good, looks okay, but plays terribly. Unless you're an absolute maniac for all things Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi, you should just say "bye bye" to this rendition.
-
20There are a few collectibles to unlock in the game, as well as a couple of mini-games that are worth a look, but, sadly, that means having to endure the main game and its unforgivable flaws. Ami and Yumi deserve better than this licensed garbage.
