Obviously, MX vs. ATV is not a perfect game, but it does perfectly fill the holes left since Mario Kart's release all those years ago.
-
74There aren't a lot of unlockables or extras, but you'll be getting solid, challenging rhythm racing in a portable size. Casual players unfamiliar with the series might find the difficulty a little steep and hard to get into.
-
71While Untamed is thin in terms of depth, the gameplay is solid.
-
70DS is getting a first run at portable MX vs. ATV action, so the package feels justifiably slim in comparison other platforms. The core gameplay is impressive though, embracing the more technical side of MX vs. ATV with rhythm racing and pure race/stunt competitions.
-
Even though the racing can be enjoyable, MX vs. ATV Untamed suffers from a decided lack of variety.
-
MX vs ATV: Untamed is an arcade-style racing game. It's like eating candy floss when what you really want is a steak. It doesn't exactly starve you for entertainment, but it leaves you hungry for more.
-
Untamed is entertaining for a couple of hours, and as such it is probably only worth renting or waiting until it shows up in a discount bin
-
60There's not much else on the DS to challenge MX, so if you've got to fill your mud-spraying fix, it's a decent enough choice, but don't expect a whole lot of variety in the experience.
-
In single-player events, the AI-controlled racers stay in such a tight pack (all three finishing within a second of each other at times) that you'll likely end up either in first place or dead last. [Jan 2008, p.89]
-
Graded on the "it's only a DS game" scale, it's not a bad effort. But where is the track editor? Where is the online play? Why is the main single-player game so repetitive and soulless?
-
While it is impressive how much of the gameplay nuances of the home versions have made it into this handheld cartridge, there simply isn't enough gameplay to keep you interested for very long.
-
50A very mixed experience, showcasing some pretty impressive ideas with a largely woeful follow through.
-
44Should you buy this game? No.
-
30A watered down racing title that won't do much for even the most dedicated dirt bike or ATV enthusiast.
