  1. Picross 3D gets hard. But it never feels impossible, and it's the sort of game that causes afternoons to simply vanish. If you're looking to do a little time-traveling, Picross 3D is a great way to do it.
  2. 100
It seems like people are always in need of DS puzzle game recommendations. From now on, whenever someone asks me to suggest one for a family member or a plane trip or something, I'm going to lead with Picross 3D.
  3. 95
When it's all said and done, Picross 3D is one of the most satisfying, unique, and charming puzzle games to be released in quite a while.
  4. 91
With hundreds of puzzles, even more available for download over wi-fi, and an editor to make and share your own, Picross 3D is just too clever for a DS puzzle game fan to pass up.
  5. Picross 3D is that kind of game, the kind that burrows itself into your mind, puts down hooks and never, ever leaves.
  6. Killer gameplay, perfect controls and spot on execution: a terrific alchemy that brings an amazing puzzle game to a whole new dimension. Beware: it's highly addictive!
  7. From a critical standpoint, it's tough to evaluate Picross, as the game has that near-perfect quality that makes Sudoku, crossword, and Tetris so appealing. That said, HAL took a risk bringing it into 3D, and that gamble pays off big. [May 2010, p.96]
  8. Although it may lack a few of the frills of its predecessor, Picross 3D feels like the more polished game.
  9. This was Nintendo’s second effort at putting Picross on the DS, but they really knocked it out of the park here.
  10. As it stands now, this is a worthy successor to the original DS title, and puzzle fans should definitely pick it up.
  11. If you're a fan of traditional Picross or similar puzzles like Sudoku, you shouldn't miss Picross 3D.
  12. Call it Sudoku Reloaded, in the third dimension, or whatever you want: Word is that Picross 3D is awesome and addictive. You'll overlook the unspectacular presentation, and the amount of 350 puzzles is amazing.

Despite a disappointing shift in visual style, Picross 3D is another enjoyable and habit-forming puzzle game that is perfect for the DS.
  14. Get ready for one of the most absorbing puzzle games on the DS.
  15. The extra dimension brings more generalised puzzling, but the game is more satisfying all round. Three-dimensional nonogram? Yesyesgram, we think. [Feb 2010, p.64]
  16. Picross 3D doesn't quite have the personality of its 2D predecessor but it's still a compelling puzzler. [Mar 2010, p.85]
  17. Picross 3D is one of the best puzzle games on the DS, but the third dimension didn't give a concrete benefit over the overall superior 2d experience.
  18. Smart, smooth and beautiful - that's the way Nintendo has made its latest Touch Generation's puzzle. It doesn't matter how much we know about the subject, it's just pure fun for every puzzle-lover or casual gamer that's just looking for some entertainment.
  19. A simple but extremely addictive concept is what makes of Picross 3D a great puzzle game.

The only potential upset for those fond of Picross DS is that there are no nods to other Nintendo properties, so that means no more Mario-themed objects to be carefully unearthed. That's the smallest of minor quibbles, though, and it's silly to be anything other than delighted by the sheer glut of perplexing content available here.
  21. Nintendo successfully adds another dimension to Picross. Thinking in three dimensions takes some getting used to, but after a while you can create the most beautiful figures from the grey blocks.
  22. Overall, this is a brilliantly executed puzzle game that captures that “just one more” gameplay that makes a truly addictive puzzle game, with simple rules and simple controls that make it playable by the full range of DS owners out there.
  23. Highly addictive puzzle game benefits from a simple concept in the third dimension. Seek dogs, microscopes and other thingies has never been so much fun. [Issue#190]

Picross 3D won't exactly set the world on fire with its explosive graphics or its thrilling action but it's a competent and fun puzzle game.
  25. It’s got all the addictive puzzle solving that made the first game so awesome. The switch to 3D made things far more interesting; rather than relying on a grid, you’ve got to rotate the entire puzzle and search it piece by piece to figure everything out.
  26. If you're up for a real mental challenge, Picross 3D will give you quite a fix.
  27. Picross 3D lets you solve puzzles in the third dimension. This is not just a challenge for your spatial-logical thinking, it’s also highly addictive.
  28. This version of Picross is not good as the standard 2D episode. There is a great number of puzzles, but the general difficulty setting is not stimulant.
  29. Picross 3D isn't quite as fun as 2007's 2-D Picross DS, but it's a very good puzzle game nonetheless. [June 2010, p.87]
  30. If brainteaser addicts are looking for a game that will pacify their logic fix, Picross 3D is more than a suitable solution that will have fans coming back for more.
  31. Picross makes the jump to 3D better than many games, although it's still not quite the perfect puzzler.
  32. There's no denying that Picross 3D is a diverting and addictive game, but at the same time it fails to surpass its two-dimensional predecessor.
  33. Picross 3D adds up nicely with an entertaining game with lots of hard nuts to solve." It should have been "Picross 3D adds up nicely with an entertaining game with lots of difficult puzzles to solve.
  34. A very addictive puzzle game, although the first entry in the series was a bit better.
  35. Like many games before this one, moving from 2D into 3D can be a tricky proposition. For every successful endeavor there are countless failures. Luckily, Picross 3D manages to come into its own as a fun puzzle game, even if it shares very few game play traits with its older brother.
