A pirate's life should never be a solitary one, and the game works much better when played with a group of mates. [Issue #24, p.74]
The lack of online multiplayer really brings the score down for Pirates: Duels on the High Sea. With the repetitive gameplay in the singleplayer mode, an online multiplayer mode would really have made Pirates much more fun.
I'd suggest avoiding this one, regardless of how low the price point may be, and you'd be better off spending your time on something else.
While it’s still a way off being a title to remember, it’s a massive improvement on KoD and shows promise for the franchise that appears to be on the up, addressing key areas like the difficulty.
Pirates: Duels on the High Seas feels more like a game for mobile phones that you can pick up for a fiver than a twenty quid DS game. It shows very little imagination and no new ideas, as though the developers have drawn themselves a very small box and made no attempt to think outside of it.
A bland experienced robbed of energy and excitement by identikit missions and limited level design.
Competently delivered yet frustratingly unambitious, Pirates: Duels on the High Seas will leave most gamers cold. Best left to drift away with the flotsam and jetsam.
