  1. If you have a little girl (or perhaps a somewhat effeminate little boy) that loves ponies, you really can’t go wrong with Pony Friends. While it’s not quite as polished and ambitious as Nintendogs was, it’s still surprisingly good, and head and shoulders above most other virtual pet games.
  2. A good choice for gamers with young daughters, or Nintendogs fans who can't get enough.
  3. 70
You have the freedom to make your own choices, your own decisions. You're not locked in to a set, standard selection of horses or a restrictive adventure narrative.
  4. If you're don't shiver with excitement at the mere thought of a lovely pretty little pony, forget about this, but if you have a daughter who is overwhelmed by the desire to put pink things on mammals, then this is an excellent little package that has plenty more to offer than two halves of a coconut, and comes in at far less than the cost of a saddle.
  5. Some of the aspects of the game that were frustrating to me also make the game more suitable for younger players: the challenge of earning enough money to care for your pet can teach kids responsibility and the value of prioritizing and planning their spending, and the factors that limit daily game time (like your pony’s stamina) can help build good habits of taking breaks between bouts of gaming.
  6. Obviously the game is targeted with a marketing sniper's precision to appeal to a certain type of young girl, but it's well crafted enough to interest a wider, inquisitive audience.

Ideal pet care title for the target audience. Not so much for others. [July 2007, p.84]

Love it! And just for your information this is NOT one of those, girly barbie-doll lover pink princess games!!!! It is MUCH more than that! ILove it! And just for your information this is NOT one of those, girly barbie-doll lover pink princess games!!!! It is MUCH more than that! I got it and think it is awesome! AND I pride myself in being a tom-boy. So, go buy this game whether your a girly-girl or not! Sure, you CAN put gross pink stuff on your horse, but you can also put skull and crossbones on it! Or nice other stuff. Anywho, I love this game. Especially the make-your-own-horse editor! Or the make-your-own blanket or quartermark editor. And the trailrides or awesome! You can take lots of pics or animals, and when you finish a group of animals you get a prize! In this game, you can CHOOSE what you want to do, unlike that nasty Horsez game... and it has awesome graphics! Unlike that nasty Sunshine Stables.... well, I love it, and I hope you do too. Expand

At first, it's brilliant. Call me sad, but I love to watch the ponies in the paddock, grazing and trotting around. The care isn't very realistic, but good for children, and the hacking is wonderful. I love the different environments and I think it's amazing that you can pat your pony whilst you ride! However, you can only walk and gallop on a hack, and walking gets a bit boring. The animals are cute, and it's great to take photos of the easy ones but some are very well hidden. The horse responds to you when you stroke him, and has his fave treat. Creating the pony is fun, too, with lots of patterns and colours to choose from, or you can buy a breed of pony. Although it is a great game, it does get boring after a while. The races are repetitive, and with limited riding there is only so much you can do. Overall, it's a good game for young children (not just girls, but it is mainly aimed at them) as it is quite easy and fun to begin with. There isn't much writing or instructions, so it's suitable for young children. However, older children and teenagers will probably find this game boring after a while. If your involved with horses in any way, the simplicity is slightly annoying. But I still recommend this game to anyone who loves horses! Expand
