This game won't get any originality award, but Soul of Darkness is an excellent example of a game style that, actually, it is not as common as we would like.
Taking many of the enjoyable visual, musical, and gameplay aspects of the DS Castlevania releases, the game molds together an absolutely terrific platforming experience that's not only extremely playable, but also wildly enjoyable as well.

If you enjoyed any of the Castlevania series games on the Nintendo systems up to Symphony of the Night on the PS or enjoyed any of the newer DS titles you will absolutely love SoD. Its basically a Castlevania game in a new skin. It's worth the few bucks for that Castlevania fix and you are guaranteed to enjoy it.

Gameloft keeps with the copy & paste philosophy with a nice Castlevania clone, deeply lacking in personality but with a good gameplay and some pretty nice graphics.

In all honesty, Soul of Darkness is a decent game that adequately captures the gothic spirit of the Castlevania franchise. Unfortunately, its failure to expand upon promising game mechanics, its criminally short playtime, the absence of any real challenge, and the lack of compelling replay value make it hard to recommend.
The most interesting aspect of this Castlevania-like lies in its unique transformations, bringing a bit of variety to the game. It's cool, but not efficient enough, even for 5 dollars.
This is a solid clone of the DS Castlevania titles. It's fun, but things could have been better if it had more weapons (there's only two, and neither are very unique). But still, this game is well worth your five bones.
