  • Summary: In Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble an action-movie hero's work is never done! During an on-location shoot of Captain Blue's latest movie, a new sinister group literally steals the show and it’s up to our not-so-average Joe to reclaim it. Using the Nintendo DS dual screens, gamers help Joe split the screen wide open to solve mind-boggling puzzles and perform his devastating moves in this side-scrolling action title. Plus the ‘Joe Camera’ let’s you pull the upper screen down to literally give Joe a helping hand. To help with all this chaos is Joe's quarrelsome little sister, Jasmine, who joins in on the action this time around. Innovative use of the Nintendo DS Dual Screens - Make use of the handheld's dual-screens and touch-sensitive panel to help Joe solve puzzles and progress through the game. [Capcom] Expand

The puzzle elements are incredibly clever in places because they're constructed of elements that really haven't been done anywhere before.
  2. While the game is rather short, and the love/hate activations of the some of the Viewtiful powers, this is an extremely fun game.
  3. Clover Studios should be applauded for designing a game around the DS strengths (much like many Japanese developers), although some aspects contain a few niggles, an original title is far more enjoyable than an uninspired console port.
  4. Does a pretty good job of walking the line between reheated leftovers and fresh meat. [Dec 2005, p.178]
  5. Maddening moments are far enough between to be only a minor blemish on an otherwise fantastic portable action game. [Jan 2005, p.90]
  6. Graphically, Double Trouble looks great, providing another example of the DS's polygonal capabilities - and though there is slowdown, it's fairly minimal. [Dec 2005, p.110]
  7. 40
The result of meddling with Joe's mechanics is pure mediocrity. Though lefties will scream in frustration, the action is never bad, merely bland.

Action/Puzzle is always a good thing. You have your entertainment both visually and mentally, and without the long drawn out collecting in Adventure games. Expand

This game looks fantastic on the DS. Like Kirby, it finds creative ways to make you use the touch screen in the heat of action. A really fun little game that appears to be underapperciated. Expand

I really liked this, I found that some of the problems in the GCN version was too much action, not enough puzzles, and the touch screen puzzles are awesome. The split thing is brilliant. I don;t know who would use scratch, I do admit that it is impossible to integrate the scrach attsck in to battle, but just don't use it. I also found it's a little easier then the GCN version, great purchase, got it on sale for 20. Expand

Gosh, what a bummer Viewtiful Joe slipped very hard in this one , it still have some great stuff on it, and has full use, the only bad thing is that it doesn't have to many replay value. Just a simple cool catridge. Expand

The new VFX powers are awkward and gimmicky, the double display is odd and pointless, and the hardware is not quite up to task -- still, all that can't quite suppress the fun of the latest title in this stellar series. Expand
