  • Summary: Return to the colorful wilds of Yoshi's Island in a new platforming adventure for Nintendo DS. A mysterious floating island has suddenly appeared over peaceful Yoshi’s Island. Soon after its arrival, a gaggle of kids vanishes from the island school. Thankfully, Baby Mario, Baby Peach and Baby Donkey Kong manage to avoid being kidnapped. Now, Yoshi and the three young superstars must set out on a wild and colorful quest to rescue the kids and investigate the ominous island hovering overhead. Thanks to the power of Nintendo DS, all of the lush vistas and perilous paths of Yoshi's Island span two screens. [Nintendo] Expand

  1. It’s improved in every way but still retains all of the elements that made the original an instant classic.
  2. Not only is Yoshi's Island DS huge, cute, innovative and beautifully presented, its layering of light platforming skills and hardcore item collection mean it's ideal for all abilities.
  3. One of the best platformers on the DS. [Jan 2007, p.75]

A classic, lengthy, & challenging platforming experience - the type of game we don't see enough of, anymore. And make no mistake - the game gets CRAZY hard, later on. This is no pushover like "NSMB" or "Super Princess Peach." You WILL die dozens of times in the last world, and bosses WILL stump you.
  5. Nintendo continues to dominate the handheld market with this cutesy but highly playable platformer. A must for Yoshi fans everywhere.
  6. A new Yoshi platformer may not bear the same crushing weight of expectations that accompanies a Mario platformer, but it does carry the Super Mario World DNA in its genes--and fans of the franchise are legion. [Jan. 2007, p.100]
  7. The DS version is a fun game, but it doesn’t improve on the original enough to break it out of the museum and into your collection.

This game left fond memories of my childhood. It is one of those adorable games certainly suited for hardcore gamers. Everything is solidly made with a heart, it is the best remake of a classic game that is ported to a handheld which is rare. By far, the best DS game I've ever played. Expand

Colorful, cartoony graphics and new infants that Yoshi can carry along, this game is fun mainly for the quality of the game and the Museum mode, which keeps track of the various types of enemies you murdered with eggs. Expand

    Pros
+A decent storyline fit for the game
    +Great colors and effects
+Plays like the original Yoshi's Island
+Different babies give you different abilities thus giving you different ways to finish levels
+A lot of exploration added to the depth of the levels
+Greater challenge for those who want the challenge

    Cons
-The dual screen sometimes makes the game annoying at times due to the fact that some jumps force Yoshi to move screen which can sometimes lead you elsewhere other than planned at times.
-Difficulty can become tedious at times especially near end game.
