A fantastically fun title, and is a credit to SNKP, who have managed (with considerable skill) to bring the distinctive tang of Slug to the masses. Although easier by far than its arcade brethren, at least this means the game has a chance of finding a (mass?) market ' a shrewd move by the IP's new masters.
  2. The basic gameplay of Metal Slug Advance is quite entertaining and fun - whilst slightly marred by additions that are rather pointless and don't add anything worthwhile to the experience.
  3. The GBA does a great job of keeping up with the arcade version. Graphically it impresses, with tons of sprites and gunfire lighting up the screen (a bonus for non-SP owners) although the sound can be a little squelchy. [Jan 2005, p.100]

It still offers frantic side-scrolling action, but doesn't live up to the glorious old-school fragfests of recent titles like "Metal Slug 3." [Dec 2004, p.190]
  5. A good game, but it has it faults. Graphics aren't nearly as good as the series is known for and the slowdown really gets to you in some parts of the game.
  6. Something that followers of the series will appreciate. It does have it's shortcomings, like it's short, pretty easy and is your standard run and gun game without two player support.
  7. Sadly, Metal Slug Advance is the worst game in the franchise with the stupid health bar, insane difficulty, shoddy frame rate, unknown playable characters, lack of a co-op link mode, and merciless respawning enemies.

The bosses are either too easy or too irritating. And most of the great enemies we saw in the recent Xbox release are nowhere to be found, leaving dull soldiers and a scattered few fun baddies.
  9. It just doesn't feel like the same series we've come to know, and follows the traits of similar action games of today, rather then the simple style to that of our yester years. It has its fair share of problems sure, but still remains fun.
